After the jade ring face is broken, the green becomes colorless. Let us explain the fake jade combination stone

Nowadays, many people have a special liking for jade. Some are obsessed with jade bracelets, some like to collect jade pendants, and some like jade rings. Jade necklaces are naturally also a favorite of some people. But precisely because jade is extremely popular, it has become a major counterfeiter, causing great distress to consumers.

B-grade and C-grade jade are extremely harmful to the human body. However, there are more ways to counterfeit jade. Some counterfeits are hard to guard against. Today we will take a look at jade's alternative counterfeiting methods through a case study.

Mr. Chen's wife is a loyal lover of jade, so Mr. Chen bought her a jade ring during the Chinese New Year. Mr. Chen's wife was very satisfied after wearing it.

But just yesterday, Mr. Chen's wife was no longer happy because the ring face of her jade ring broke inexplicably, and it was a horizontal break.

What is even more incredible is that the broken piece of jade has changed from its original green color to colorless, while the "jade" remaining on the claw holder does not look like jade at all. What is going on?

What Mr. Chen bought should be the so-called jadeite combination jade, which is a fake that looks like mid-to-high-end jadeite. It often occurs in jadeite rings because inlay can well cover up the traces of counterfeiting.

Next, let’s talk specifically about jadeite combination stones. You can try to identify them yourself.

01 Jadeite combination stone

As the name suggests, jade combination stone is several stones or other materials combined together. Usually there are two categories: two-layer stone and three-layer stone. Generally, it is real jade and fake jade combined together.

1. Second layer stone:

There are two types of double-layer stones: "fake double-layer" and "real double-layer". Real double-layer stones refer to two pieces of real A-grade jadeite glued together to form a larger piece of jadeite.

The reason for doing this is that under the same other conditions, the larger the size of the jade, the more valuable it is, and the value increases exponentially. If the size is doubled, the price will not just double, but ten times or even dozens of times. This is why two pieces of jade are combined together to form a larger jade.

The fake second layer, the upper layer is usually covered with colorless A-grade jadeite, and the lower layer is actually green glass or other substances dyed green. The green color can be seen through the colorless A-grade jadeite, making people think it is a high-grade green jadeite.

The jade ring bought by Mr. Chen mentioned earlier is this kind of fake second layer. This also explains why the piece of "jade" that Mr. Chen bought fell off turned from green to colorless, because it is colorless in itself.

2. Three-layer stone:

Three-layer stones are generally divided into two types. One is sandwich-shaped, that is, the upper and lower layers are colorless jade, and the middle is other dyed substances. The other is that all three layers are jade, but the texture of the jade in the middle layer is much worse than those of the upper and lower layers, which is also to increase the volume of the jade to increase the selling price.

02How to avoid being cheated

This kind of multi-layer appears in both the raw stone and the finished product. As for the raw stone, it is far away from us and there is no need to understand it. What we need to know is how to identify the combined stones in the finished jadeite products.

1 Magnifying glass:

A magnifying glass is generally required to identify multi-layer stones. Because current technology and craftsmanship are very sophisticated, the marks of the joints can be minimized. Sometimes it is difficult to see with the naked eye, so a magnifying glass is necessary.

Observe the surface of the jade carefully through a magnifying glass to see if there are any seams and whether there are any stratifications in color and gloss.

2 Refraction method:

Place the jade in a white porcelain dish (it must be white porcelain), fill it with water, then use chopsticks to hold the jade jewelry with the side facing up. Different substances refract different colors in clear water, and the junction of different color bands is the seam.

3 Bubble method:

Jade jewelry can be placed in hot water at about 60 degrees. If it is a combined stone, bubbles may overflow from the gap at the joint. High temperature may also soften the adhesive at the joint and fall off, revealing its true appearance.

4. Naked eye method:

This method requires a certain level of skill. As mentioned earlier, the outer layer of a multi-layer stone is generally colorless jadeite, and the green is reflected by the green substance at the bottom. Therefore, the color of the combined stone comes from the inside out, not on the surface. If you can see this, you can tell whether it is a combined stone.

There are thousands of fake jadeite. In addition to composite stones, there are also thin water materials, hollow thin materials, Yongchu materials, gold-plated jade, etc. Although these things are not as hateful as B goods and C goods, they are also disgusting.

These ornaments have one thing in common, which is inlay. It does not mean that inlaid jade ornaments are bad, but they leave more room for tampering and are easier to be exploited. Therefore, you should be more careful when you encounter inlaid jade ornaments in the future.
