There are generally three types of raw materials: large pieces of kilograms of materials, small pieces of sliced ​​materials and piles of kilograms of materials. Sihui is a jade market dominated by small pendants, so jade carving people like us usually buy some small sliced ​​pieces to create our works. Today I would like to share with my jade friends the carving process of the work "Dunhuang Flying Fairy".

This piece of material is a common jadeite transparent material on the market. Such transparent materials will generally be polished by the seller before being sold, and the quality and color of the material can be clearly seen. This piece of material has a delicate and smooth texture, is thick enough, has no cracks or blemishes, and its bright emerald green color is bright and fresh.

There are two design directions for this material. If you like to do quality work, you can design it into a Wu Shi Pai or a Ruyi! But if you like carving, this material is very suitable for making figure pendants because of its delicate texture. You can retain the color bands to the maximum extent and plan out a neat square plaque.

Jade carvers are very fond of such colorful materials, and the colorful parts can provide good inspiration for jade carvers. For materials with good water quality, the subject design will tend to be simple, so as to better reflect the inherent texture and charm of the material. After some creation, the design idea of ​​"Dunhuang Flying Fairy" has emerged: the peaceful Buddha appears in the clouds, and the image of a flying fairy is nearby, as if the Buddhist chanting is lingering. It is simple, but not lacking in artistic conception and beauty.

The carving technique is shallow relief, and the figures are portrayed with fresh and smooth lines. The whole plaque is dominated by a large light body. The shallow relief figures retain a sense of three-dimensionality and have a full visual effect, adding a lot of beauty to the whole square plaque.

Because this is a sculpture with a mainly glossy body, bright polishing was chosen for the polishing. However, in order to make the Buddha statue more three-dimensional, matte polishing was used on the face of the Buddha statue, so that the entire finished product is more three-dimensional and has a more textured feel!

After polishing, the finished product has a gluey feel, the color is bright and not cast, and the pendant is delicate and elegant. The base is clean and translucent without any flaws or cracks. It is indeed an exquisite jade work with good quality and color.
