What is water-type jadeite? How to choose and buy water-type jadeite?

Water-type jade is a type of jade, which is characterized by being as transparent as water but with a soft luster. If you look closely at its internal structure, you can see a few "ripples", or a small amount of stone lines and extrusion lines, and occasionally very few impurities and cotton willows. Next, the editor will introduce to you what is water-type jadeite and the key points of purchasing water-type jadeite.

1. What is water-type jadeite?

The structure of water-type jade is slightly coarser than that of old pit glass-type jade. Its gloss and transparency are also slightly lower than that of old pit glass-type jade, but similar or equivalent to ice-type jade. Its characteristic is that it is as transparent as water but has a soft luster. If you look closely at its internal structure, you can see a few "ripples", or a small amount of dark cracks and stone patterns, and occasionally very few impurities and cotton willow. Some experts say that water-type jadeite is light-colored or colorless, and of slightly inferior quality from old pit-type jadeite. It is a mid-to-high-range and occasionally high-range variety of jade.

The so-called water-type jadeite refers to a type of jadeite between the old pit glass type and the ice type. The grain size of its jade is slightly coarser than the old pit glass type, and its transparency is also slightly lower than the old pit glass type, but similar to or equivalent to the ice type. Its characteristics are that it is as transparent as water, with soft luster. If you look closely at its internal structure, you can see a few "ripples", or a small amount of dark cracks and stone patterns. Occasionally, very few impurities and cotton willows can be seen. It has good clarity and is a fine product among jadeite. According to color, water-type jadeite can be divided into four categories: clear water, green water, blue water and purple water. Among them, the colorless one is called "clear water", also known as "clear water"; the lighter and uniform green is called "green water"; the light and uniform blue is called "blue water"; and the uniform and lighter purple is called "purple water". No matter what color of water-type jadeite, the better the water content and the better the color, the higher its value.

2. Key points for purchasing water-type jadeite:

①Look at the color. Check whether the color is pure, rich and uniform, and use a spotlight to check for hidden impurities. The best ones are those with rich, pure, uniform color and minimal impurities. Among jadeite, emerald green has a higher price, followed by red and purple. Among the green colors, the best is the fresh, slightly yellowish, and three-point watery seedling green (also known as "Yang Miao" green), followed by emerald green, river green, and oily green. All greens with evenly distributed distribution are better.

②Observe the transparency. When observed under strong light, the higher the transparency, the better.

③Listen to the sound. The better the knocking sound is, the clearer and more pleasant it is.

④Observe the jade quality and stone flowers. When observed against the light, jadeite can be seen to have flashes of other mineral particles (i.e. jadeite properties), and often has clumps of white flowers, called stone flowers. Less is better for both.

⑤ Look for cracks and black spots. Some cracks exist in the original ore, while others are caused by processing. The fewer the cracks, the better. Black spots are black spots found everywhere in jade, and the fewer and smaller the better.

⑥Look at the processing level. The best ones are smooth surface, well polished and in good shape.
