1. What is water seeding?

In fact, the quality and water should be discussed separately. The water represents the transparency of jade. If the jade looks very transparent, it means that the water is very good. As for the quality, in layman's terms, it is equivalent to the variety of jade, which is a way to classify jade according to different characteristics.

The classification method is generally based on the color, transparency, texture and other aspects of jade. For example, there are flower green, white base green, oily green and so on. These are classified based on the color of jade. The glass type, Chong type and glutinous type are classified according to the degree of transparency. There are also the so-called dry green type, Qingshui type, and even hibiscus type, which are related to the color and texture of jade.

In today's cultural and antique circles, people basically talk about the quality and water together. Jade with fine texture and high transparency is said to have good quality and water, while jade with poor texture and poor transparency is said to have poor quality and water. There is also a so-called old and young term in jade, which actually also represents the good and bad quality and water. Old means good quality and water, and young means bad quality and water.

2. What are the common types of jade?

1. Old pit glass

If the color of jade is particularly good and the texture is very fine, then we can say that it is old pit jade. If this kind of jade with very beautiful color, if the water quality is particularly good and the transparency is extremely high, then we call it glass type. Together, it is old pit glass type. Currently in the cultural relics circle, old pit glass type is very rare. It is a very fine jade and it is very expensive.

2. Glass type

Glass-type, from the surface its meaning is not difficult to see, means that the water quality of jade is as transparent and pure as glass, but the color is not as beautiful as the old pit glass-type. The green may not be as rich, but lighter. However, the advantage is that it has very good transparency, few impurities, a relatively delicate structure, and a fluorescent effect. The price of such glass-type jade is also very high.

3. Ice

Ice type refers to a jadeite with a degree of transparency slightly lower than that of glass type. The overall transparency is very similar to that of ice, which is probably a translucent state. Some ice types will have some floating flowers. Although the price of such ice type jadeite is not as good as glass type, it is also the top-level jadeite.

4. Glutinous

The glutinous type is a mid-range jadeite, and its transparency is lower than that of the ice type. Although it is also translucent, it is not that transparent. It has a hazy feeling of being neither transparent nor transparent. After being illuminated, it looks as transparent as glutinous rice soup.

5. Hibiscus

In the jade family, there is a color that appears light green or purple, and the texture is relatively delicate, with fewer impurities. When illuminated, you can clearly see that the jadeite particles inside are of uniform size, very uniform, and the structure is also very delicate. This kind of water quality is called hibiscus quality.

6. Anthocyanin

Huaqing jade refers to jade with uneven color distribution. It is a type of jade that is judged by its color. Although the color is uneven, it can be divided into ice-based blue jade, bean-based Huaqing jade and oil-based Huaqing jade according to its transparency.

7. White background blue

White base green should be considered a relatively common type of jade. It has a rough texture, very obvious granular structure, and extremely poor transparency. The base color is white, with few green floating colors on the surface. The contrast between white and green is very obvious. This is white base green jade.

8. Oily green

Youqing is a type of jade with a poor texture. Generally, the green color appears dull and has gray or blue tones, but the transparency of Youqing is relatively good, and the overall structure is relatively delicate. Because of the delicate structure, the surface will have an oily luster. This is Youqing.

9. Bean seeds

Bean-type jade is a low-end quality jade. Because the internal structural crystal of bean-type jade is a short columnar structure with very obvious boundaries, it looks like beans arranged together from the side, so it is called bean-type. It is a jade with a rough texture and poor transparency, and the price is relatively cheap.

10. Tielongsheng

Tielongsheng is very poor in both texture and transparency. Its texture is very rough and it is almost impossible to transmit light. Fortunately, the color of Tielongsheng is relatively good. It is generally full green and very bright, so it is a kind of jade with only color but no water quality.

In fact, the water qualities of jade are far more than the ten listed above. There is a popular saying in the cultural relics circle: thirty-six types of water, seventy-two types of beans, and one hundred and eight types of blue. This shows how many types of water there are of jade. However, the ten types mentioned in the article are the most common types. If you understand the above ten types of water, the possibility of being cheated when purchasing jade will be much smaller.
