Four steps to teach you how to identify the quality of jade

Jade is loved by more and more people for its noble color and rich texture. However, the knowledge about jade is profound and extensive. What kind of jade is good jade, and how to identify and distinguish it?

The first point to look at is color. Jade has extremely rich colors, which is an extremely important factor in evaluating the quality and value of jade. Among the many colors, red, green and purple are the main colors. They are all high-end colors in jade, among which green is the most gorgeous and precious. In the traditional color classification, people regard the green color of jade as thick, bright, pretty, correct and harmonious. The so-called "thick" refers to the color of jade as dark green without any black, while the lighter green is called "light". "Yang" means bright and vivid colors that make the eyes bright, while dark and dull colors are called "Yin". "Pretty" means that the green color of jade should appear crystal clear, beautiful and lovely, otherwise it will be "old". "Positive" means the color should be pure, without any other colors. If there are any other colors, it will appear "evil". "He" means that the green should be uniform and consistent. If the green is distributed in different shades, it is called "flower".

The second point is to look at the water quality. The color of jade does not exist alone, it is presented through the texture of jade. The first is its transparency. Transparency is the main technical basis for identifying jadeite. The transparency of jade is also called "head" or "water" in the industry. Jade with high transparency is often said to have full water head, good water head, or long water head. The higher the transparency, the better. The usual method to test the quality of jadeite is that if the light can penetrate into the jade to a depth of 3 mm, it is one point of water. The higher the penetration depth, the more water there is. If the jadeite can reach two points of water, it can be considered as top quality. Or when judging the transparency of jadeite, first prepare a piece of paper with words on it, then take a small piece of jadeite and place it on the paper with words, and observe the words on the paper through the jadeite. The clearer the subset is, the better the transparency of the jadeite.

The third is the sound of gently tapping jade. Real jade has a dense, solid structure and a crisp sound; the sound is the same as the surrounding sounds above and below. Fake jade that has been bleached and filled has its structure destroyed and the mineral particles are filled with colloid. The structure is soft and makes a dull sound when tapped lightly, which is different from the sounds around it.

The fourth is the intuitive touch. It is said that people raise jade and jade raises people. Real raw stones feel smooth to the touch, and there is no peeling of grains. Fake raw stones feel hard and the grains have sand falling off.
