2. Color identification

Jadeite finished product processing is divided into two categories: plain finished products and carved finished products.

Smooth products have higher requirements on raw materials and cannot have cracks, because cracks are easily visible. Jade with cracks is mostly used to make decorative pieces, and the cracks can be covered through carving techniques.

Therefore, when evaluating plain finished products and flower pieces, under the condition of same quality, plain products are more expensive than flower pieces, of course there are exceptions for particularly exquisite jade carvings.

1. Transparency: Translucent is best, too transparent or opaque is not good.

2. Structure: The finer the particles, the better.

3. Clarity: Flawless is best.

Grading

① Special grade: bright green (emerald green), apple green, glassy ground (translucent, fine texture), uniform and bright, without impurities or cracks.

②Commercial grade: green, oily green background, slightly transparent, interspersed with translucent emerald green veins and speckled jade.

③Ordinary grade: lotus root powder base, bean green, light green, delicate white, slightly transparent. Opaque jade is generally only used to make jade jewelry.

Jade has a vitreous luster and is translucent or transparent. Jade comes in a variety of colors due to the different coloring ions it contains: usually white, red, green and purple. Yellow, pink, etc. The pure one without impurities is white. If it contains chromium, it will appear soft and bright light green or dark green, which is called emerald. This variety is the most precious and is highly cherished and loved by people. If it contains manganese, it will appear light purple or dark purple, and is often called spring land or lotus root powder land. If it contains iron, it will appear dark red, brown red, or ochre red, and is called jade. Containing chromium and copper elements, it appears light blue or light green, and is called olive water. In addition to good color, texture is also extremely important for high-end jadeite. Generally, the color is fresh and beautiful, the texture is relatively transparent, and the ones with strong glass luster are the best quality. On the contrary, varieties with dry texture and poor transparency are second best.
