How can you continue to play with jade if you can’t tell whether the jade has become “uglier” or “mutated”?

I don’t know if you have ever encountered these troublesome problems, that is, after wearing jade for a long time, the quality becomes dry, darker or yellower. You think this is caused by jade mutation, but it is not. There is a certain difference between jade becoming ugly and mutation.

How to understand the varieties of jadeite?

Scientifically speaking, the mutant flying female is a variety in which the old species and the young species coexist simultaneously, which is caused by imperfect development during the mineral formation process.

In layman's terms, variation refers to an essential change in the quality and texture of jadeite, which may change from good to bad, or from bad to good. This is usually more common in jadeite raw stones.

In other words, the drying out, color change, and yellowing of the jade middle finger may be caused by jade mutations, but jade mutations do not necessarily manifest as the water drying out, blackening, and yellowing. The ugliness of these jades may also be caused by external reasons.

Jade is getting drier

Some jades are moist and translucent when they are just bought, but after wearing for a long time, they will become very dry and lose the moisture they had when they were first bought. This is not necessarily caused by jade mutations. The biggest reason may be that the jade has "lost water".

Some jadeite with loose internal structure will lose water after being placed for a period of time, so there is a saying that jadeite needs to be drained regularly or the humidity of the environment where it is placed must be maintained.

Emerald turns black

Jade suddenly becomes dull and lifeless after being worn for a long time. What is going on? This is because the "wax layer" on the surface of jade has fallen off. Waxing jade is the most important step after jade polishing. Waxing jade not only makes the surface of jade smooth and bright, but also is equivalent to applying a protective film to jade to prevent erosion by sweat, chemical reagents and various corrosive substances.

However, with long-term wear, this protective film will inevitably fall off due to the bumps and frictions between jade and various hard objects, clothes and skin. Without the effect of wax, the jade will naturally not be as bright and beautiful as before. This is not necessarily caused by jade "mutation".

Jade turns yellow

The reason why jade turns yellow may be that jade itself is dark yellow. After being artificially optimized, such as applying polishing powder and then directly waxing, the color of jade becomes brighter. Over time, the "wax layer" falls off, and the true color of jade is revealed.

In addition, some B-grade and C-grade jadeite will become increasingly yellow after being worn for a long time. For example, B+C-grade jadeite after acid pickling will have an internal structure that becomes comfortable to wear, so over time the dye will fall off and discolor.

The essence of the above jade becoming ugly is not caused by jade mutation, but by some external reasons. You must pay attention to distinguish them.

Pay attention to these variant jades

In the original mining area of jadeite, there are other jades associated with it, that is, jadeite's associated minerals. From the appearance, these associated jades look similar to jadeite, but their internal structures are very different. We can call them jadeite varieties or jadeite's associated minerals.

These jade-associated jades have loose internal structures, simple crystal grains with large gaps, and are prone to turning yellow and drying out over time. This kind of jade cannot be called jade.

Common associated jades include water foam, tumbler, siliceous jade, etc., which are often used to impersonate jadeite.
