Why are most top-grade jadeite plain?

Why are most top-grade jadeite plain?

We will find such an interesting phenomenon that in the jade market and major auction houses, most of the top-grade jadeite are plain. Plain jade is also called "bare" jade. It does not have any carvings or patterns. This requires the jade to have very good quality and no defects such as cracks and dirt.

Jade jewelry is generally divided into two categories: "plain" and "carved". Plain jade has no carved patterns or decorations on the surface. The jade ring faces, bracelets, plain flower pieces, etc. that we commonly see are all plain jade; in a broad sense, carved Guanyin, Buddha, etc. also fall into the category of plain jade, because this type of jade has high requirements for raw materials, a smooth surface, and except for fixed carving lines, there are no extra carvings.

Plain jade has two general characteristics: first, its shape is moderate or slightly large, which is suitable for daily wear. If it is inlaid with a circle, it will appear larger, which is uncoordinated. Second, the quality of this type of jade is poor. The material and labor costs consumed for inlaying this type of jade will far exceed the value of the jade itself, so there is no need to do so.

Inlaid Jade

The jadeite inlaid ones also have the following characteristics:

First, jadeite with better quality, richer color and higher value can be highlighted in terms of fashion sense by matching it with K-gold, colored gems, etc., thereby greatly increasing its market value.

Second, most small and thin jadeite will be inlaid to make its appearance richer and fuller.

Third, there are cracks on the surface or edges, which need to be covered up by inlaying. This type of jade is generally "sealed". If the quality of the jade is good and there are no cracks, even if it is mounted, the store will generally adopt the method of "opening a skylight" for consumers to inspect.

Fourth, combination jadeite. This type of jadeite is unique in its own way. It mainly combines jadeite with K gold, colored gems, etc. to make the accessories vivid and lifelike. Common ones include brooches, pendants and so on.

There is a reason why plain jade is expensive! This is mainly reflected in the very high requirements for the raw materials, which must be old and have beautiful colors, and at the same time be able to perfectly interpret the "king" style of jadeite.

Of course, whether it is plain jade or inlaid jade, there is no shortage of jade with excellent quality and color. How to choose it depends on the specific object and personal preferences.

The collection value of plain jadeite:

The price of jade is rising year by year, and more investors are also collecting plain jade. In famous auction houses such as Poly and Christie's, the top-quality jadeite that can be sold at high prices are almost without exception concentrated on plain accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, and ring faces, which shows the market potential.
