Tips for distinguishing true and false jade with the naked eye

Tips for distinguishing true and false jade with the naked eye

Jadeite is a precious jade stone and is known as the "king of jade". Jade, the birthstone for May, symbolizes happiness, luck and longevity. As early as the 16th century, people believed that jade was a gem that could cure back pain and kidney pain. Revered for its gorgeous and colorful colors, handicrafts made from jadeite are extremely popular in my country, especially during the Qing Dynasty, when it was regarded as an important artifact by the royal family and called "royal jade."

Jade is extremely valuable, but many unscrupulous merchants will use inferior jade to process and impersonate jade. In order to avoid being deceived, I have summarized the following points for you:

1. High-quality jade is generally transparent to translucent, has a glassy luster and high hardness.

2. Jade has a high density and feels heavy in the hand. Fake jade is obviously much lighter. 3. Jade is formed naturally in nature, so you can see gray, yellow or black floc-like impurities inside the jade. Fake jade does not contain any impurities and has no flaws. How is it possible for it to form in nature? Don't be deceived by the merchants' propaganda.

4. When you knock on jade, it will make a crisp sound, while the sound of fake jade is not as pleasant as real jade, but hoarse and dull.

5. If you see products with cracks, don’t be tempted by the cheap price. These are inferior products picked out by the merchants. If you buy them home, they will break into pieces soon.

6. The surface of the jade is smooth and the color is bright. If you can see a clear window reflection through the surface, it is high-quality jade.

7. Some merchants will apply a layer of green film on the surface of jade to impersonate "high-end jade". If natural green stripes and silk-like traces can be seen under strong light, it is high-quality jade.

8. Asking the merchant for their authentication certificate is the most convenient and quickest way.
