What are the things to consider when choosing jadeite?

Jade is a fibrous aggregate composed of pyroxene minerals, mainly jadeite minerals. It is a stone polycrystalline aggregate reaching jade grade formed under geological action.

In today's Asian jade market, jadeite has already occupied the majority of the market, but jadeite is not a noble who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. According to records in ancient documents, it has indeed experienced a lot of ups and downs to rise to the top, and it has firmly held the throne today by relying on its extraordinary beauty and gentle quality.

When I first debuted, I was an ugly duckling.

Jade, which is now famous for its temperament among many gemstones, was once an ugly duckling that was not welcomed by people.

According to legend, before the Northern Song Dynasty, jadeite, which had just been introduced to China, did not seem to be valued for its collection. There is such a record in Ji Xiaolan's "Youwei Thatched Cottage Notes": "Yunnan jadeite was not regarded as jade at that time. It was just like Lantian dry yellow, which was forcibly named as jade."

This is simply a blatant disdain for my background as a great jadeite! It seems that in that feudal era, family background was the first criterion for ordinary people to judge things. Therefore, Jadeite, who was born in a humble family, naturally could not escape the embarrassing period of obscurity when she first debuted.

A leap forward, making it to the top of the popularity list

However, after the Northern Song Dynasty, scholars and literati exclaimed: "Now it is a treasure, and its price is far higher than that of real jade." Jade finally ushered in its spring. Its warm and full external beauty and noble and nourishing inner beauty won a large number of loyal fans and earned it the reputation of "green gem."

Its value has also increased dramatically, and it has become a precious ornament for wealthy families to play with. However, although its value has increased, it is still dwarfed by the US$700,000 or 800,000 per kilogram of special jadeite that was worth at the beginning of this century.

Domineering leak detection, finally exclusive to the queen

You ignored me in the past, but now I am out of your reach.

Over the past two thousand years, jade has grown from a small name to become popular all over the country. During this period, it has always remained calm and composed, without any arrogance or impetuosity. Finally, in the 21st century, it became the queen of the jade world.

Nowadays, owning one or two pieces of emerald green, bright and rich jade jewelry has become a practice rule for the world's top queens.

If you count them carefully, you will find that many influential and outstanding women have, without exception, fallen under the halo of emerald. The jade necklace and jade bracelet worn by the mother of the nation, Soong Ching Ling, during her lifetime, further highlighted her elegance and grace. Liu Xiaoqing also spent 2 million to buy the natural icy jadeite with purple jadeite and diamond jewelry set.

Queen's training starts with choosing a good jadeite

Not everyone can cultivate the aura of a king. If you want to possess the aura of a king, start with a good piece of jade.

1. Seed

"Type" actually refers to the fineness of jade, which is related to the size of the particles that make up the jade. The smaller the particles, the denser its structure and the stronger its ability to reflect light. Therefore, jadeite with good quality will emit a kind of fluorescence and become sticky under light. On the contrary, if the constituent particles are large, the jadeite structure will be loose, prone to breakage, and will not produce a fluorescent halo under light.

2. Water

The "water" of jade refers to its transparency. Usually we consider "quality" and "water" together, that is, in the jargon, jadeite with "good quality and water" has collection value. So generally speaking, the more water content of jadeite and the more transparent it looks under the light source, the better its quality.

3. Color

The "color" of jade refers to its color. Although people often prefer jade red and emerald green, don't forget that jade also has other colors. As long as the quality is good, it is equally valuable. Take the top-quality white glass jade for example. Although its color is not as bright as green jade, it is also a rare and noble variety. Therefore, when collecting jadeite, do not limit your vision to the two colors of red and green. Jadeite of other colors, such as floating flowers and black jadeite, can also be collected. As long as the color is "positive", "rich", "bright" and "even", it will be fine.

4. Shape

The "shape" of jade refers to its shape. It involves the size, thickness, regularity and fullness of jade. Collection-level jadeite must be of regular shape and made of thick and full materials. Only by fully ensuring the various dimensions of the materials can the processed works have sufficient expressiveness. Various scraps are usually thin slices, or the materials are very small, or the materials are irregular, which limits the expression of the work, and the finished product appears stingy and cramped.

In terms of additional humanistic factors, the collection of jade can also be analyzed from the four points of "craftsmanship", "rhythm", "tradition" and "evidence".

5. Work

The craftsmanship of jade is an important factor in determining its value. When it comes to jadeite, there are two terms: "carving" and "inlay". First of all, carving is the process of transforming a raw stone into a work of art, which integrates the designer's imagination and techniques. Jade that has been carefully carved will present extreme beauty and naturally have high value. If it is made by a master, it will have even greater collection value. If the jadeite you purchase is not well carved and the finished product is rough, then even if its water quality is good, it will not have much room for appreciation, because it has lost its beauty and room for reshaping, and is not as valuable as the original stone. When talking about "inlay work", it can be likened to "exquisite packaging". If the right inlay materials are chosen, the overall aesthetics will be higher. Of course, the inlay position is also very important. It is best to avoid covering the original brilliance of the jade and present a complementary effect. If the colors of the inlay are not harmonious or the workmanship is not fine, you should be cautious when collecting such jade.

6. Rhyme

"Rhyme" refers to a kind of artistic conception and charm. The reason why some jade carvers are called masters is because the works they carve are lifelike. For example, a good work of carving Maitreya Buddha can convey the fairy charm with a big belly and smile that goes straight to the heart. Moreover, this rhyme is not random. Different styles and flavors need to be carved out according to different subjects. For example, when sculpting a beautiful woman, don’t just use a rigid and monotonous character. You can use some exaggeration or scenery to express the character’s temperament. Therefore, the more different the style of a work is, the more valuable it is to collect.

7. Transmission

The "chuan" here refers to inheritance, which means historicity. If what you collect is jadeite handed down from ancient times, its value is incomparable to modern jadeite. Especially for old jadeite from the Ming and Qing dynasties, the appreciation potential is definitely very high.

8. Certificate

"Certificate" means "certificate", which means sending jadeite to various national jewelry and jade testing centers and provincial jewelry and jade testing centers for testing and issuing a testing certificate. When collecting jadeite, this certificate is also a method of identification and has some value. If the jadeite does not even have a certificate, you have to be very cautious.
