If green is the most popular color of jade, then black is undoubtedly the least popular color. Even when talking about jade and black, many people may think of black jade first. But in fact, the black color of black jade is only because it is too green, and it also has a unique beauty. However, the real black in those jades is an absolute flaw.

Most of the black color in jade is naturally formed. As an unsightly existence, it has a great impact on the value of jade. According to the form, it can be divided into the following three types.

//Black Spot//

Black spots refer to the spot-like black objects that exist in the green color of jadeite . They are often distributed in jadeite with rich green color and high water content, and are isolated and sporadic.

Depending on the size, slightly larger black spots are called "fly poop", those with flashing features are called "black stars", those with wrapped objects inside are called "sand nails", and those that are shaped like a small sand hole after being worn out are called "sand bags".

The white dots in jadeite with good water quality are called "white nails". When the black spots or white nails appear in groups and densely, they are called "prickly heat".

There is also a dark dot called a "green dot". Arts and crafts experts believe that jadeite with black spots is generally older.

The "old quality" here, in addition to the dense, fine texture and high water content of the jade, its most important characteristic is the rich and bright green color. In other words, old and emerald green jade materials are more likely to have black spots.

//Black Silk//

Black silk refers to the black filaments that exist in jade. Sometimes they are single and short, sometimes they are in the form of small, wide or narrow silk flakes , and sometimes they are densely packed together. If observed from a small range, they appear as black silk, and in a large range, they appear as veins.

However, black silk does not exist completely alone, it is often entangled with green silk. The boundary between the two can be clear or intertwined. Generally, darker colors are black and lighter colors are green.

//Black Belt//

Black band refers to the black band or vein-like objects that exist in jade, commonly known as "black band". If the black objects appear in clusters or irregular shapes, they are called "black lumps".

The black belts are often arranged parallel to the green belts. Sometimes a layer of black tightly wraps a layer of green, and sometimes a layer of black is green on both sides. There are also multiple layers of black and green.

There is often an attachment or wrapping relationship between the black bumps and the green, with the green often attached to the outside of the black. It can be said that black belt is a larger black silk.

These types of black are the result of other mineral elements infiltrating the original stone during the formation of jadeite. If the amount is small and does not affect the beauty of the jade, these black colors are acceptable.
