According to Buddhist records, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva once went deep into hell several times to rescue his mother who was suffering in hell, and he has continuously made vows to save all sentient beings who are suffering since ancient times. Therefore, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was widely promoted in Buddhism for his great filial piety and great vows, and became one of the four great Bodhisattvas in Chinese Buddhism. He was also honored as "Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva of Great Vow". The editor particularly likes the theme of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, and he also wears a Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva made of yellow jade. Today, the editor will share the process from a rough stone to a finished product of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. This is a piece of jadeite rough stone which is not considered to be very good. The quality of the jadeite is average, just a glutinous material with some cracks. However, there are blue flowers on the material. If used properly, it should be a good pendant. This is also the reason why this material is kept and not sold. The jade carver cut the material into a neat square plaque. After analyzing the characteristics of the material and with admiration for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the jade carver decided to use this piece of jade to create a Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. After analyzing the color trend and crack distribution on the jade material, the jade carver uses an oil pen to draw the layout of the entire subject matter on the jade material in preparation for carving. After the composition was finalized, the jade carver used shallow relief to carve the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva pattern. The cleanest and most flawless part of the entire jade material was used to carve the image of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, using mountains and clouds to remove cotton and avoid stone patterns, striving to make the finished work perfect. The creative carving on the back responds to the theme and pattern on the front, with dead pine branches as the main pattern. While responding to the theme on the front, it also avoids the stone pattern, killing two birds with one stone. There is a slight surprise in the finished product. The blue flowers on the jadeite have melted away, the color has become darker and more vivid, and the cotton wool throughout the body has also become much more glutinous, making the finished product look more transparent. The finished product has a layer of gummy feeling after polishing, which is a rare surprise in the glutinous material.
