If the jade is not polished and shaped, no matter how good its texture is, it will be difficult to show its true beauty. Only through repeated polishing and the incorporation of thought can the value of a piece of jade be increased thousands of times. The jadeite and beautiful jade we see in our lives are generally smaller objects. For example, bracelets are very popular among women, and pendants are also relatively common. In some museums you can see cabbages or hand-held pots carved from jade, but you certainly haven’t seen a painting of the River During the Qingming Festival carved from jade, right?

"Along the River During the Qingming Festival" is one of the ten most famous Chinese paintings. The whole painting is 24.8 cm wide and 528.7 cm long. It uses a scattered composition method, vividly recording the urban appearance of Bianjing, the capital of my country during the Northern Song Dynasty, as well as the living conditions of people from all social classes.

It is said that the author Zhang Zeduan created this painting while standing on a high building from a bird's-eye view. Therefore, we can not only see the various pedestrians and livestock such as cows, horses, and donkeys in the scroll, but we can also clearly see the overall picture of the building, including the roof beams and other structures. The overall picture is very unified, and the details also have room for careful consideration.

It is not easy to recognize all the characters in such a great work with the naked eye, let alone carving them vividly on jade. But a jade carving master named Li Zhenqing from Henan did it, although the whole process was very difficult.

In 1985, Li Zhenqing entered a carving factory to study. Every time a master came to visit the carving factory, Li Zhenqing would take the initiative to serve tea and water and ask some questions about carving. Under the guidance of famous teachers, Li Zhenqing found his own artistic direction, which is to combine it with Chinese classical painting art.

With his own direction in life, Li Zhenqing made rapid progress. In 2005, he won the "Tiangong Award", the highest award in the national jade carving industry. In March 2005, Li Zhenqing entered Ruili Vocational and Technical School to teach jade carving. While he is teaching his ideas to his students, he is also pursuing continuous improvement.

After accumulating a certain amount of capital, Li Zhenqing came up with a bold idea. He purchased a huge 2.2-ton jadeite rough stone from Myanmar. These raw stones can be cut into at least 4,000 jade bracelets. If the price is 50,000 yuan per bracelet, the value of this raw stone is about 200 million yuan.

Of course, Li Zhenqing did not cut the jade into bracelets. He wanted to carve the jadeite raw stone into "Along the River During the Qingming Festival". Before carving, he spent several months cutting and splicing it into a 2:1 scale of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival". Then he invited several carving masters to assist him in completing this huge project. Finally, it took a full 4 years to complete it. This jade-carved "Along the River During the Qingming Festival" has a new name, called "Jade Along the River During the Qingming Festival".

Today, this "Emerald Painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival" is treasured in the Beijing National Book Museum.
