There are so many colors of jade that it is overwhelming. I believe that many jade lovers feel that jade is too mysterious and too difficult to understand. Many articles introducing the classification of jade color write that jade color is divided into seven categories: colorless, white, green, purple, black, yellow and red, and combined colors. In fact, to put it simply, jade colors can be divided into three categories: primary color, secondary color and combined color. Primary colors include: white, green, black, and purple; secondary colors include: jadeite and secondary green; combined colors include: boxwood green, fortune, longevity, and white-based green, etc.

1. Primary colors

1. White type: When jade is basically composed of purer jadeite minerals, the color will appear colorless to white, transparent to opaque. The white color of jade is the most respected color in my country's 6,000-year-old traditional jade culture. "Pure as white jade" and "flawless white jade" reflect the typical moral values ​​of white jade culture. White is simple, frank and pure, giving people a feeling of purity, freshness and refinement. The white category can be divided into two categories: ice white and dry white.

1) Ice White: It is the best quality of white jadeite, transparent or translucent, like the common ice and glass jadeite. This type of jade is pure and flawless, crystal clear, and has a sense of purity, and can symbolize pure love.

2) Dry White: Milky white, because of the coarse grains, loose structure, there are certain gaps between the grains, which reduces the transparency, and it is a medium and low-grade jadeite.

2. Green : The reason why jade is so attractive is closely related to its charming green color. Green symbolizes life and vitality. The green color of jadeite is ever-changing and has different shades. The green color of jadeite can be generally divided into the following categories:

1) Emerald green: When the color reaches “positive, rich, bright and even”, the green is rich and slightly dark, it can be called “emerald green”, also known as “imperial green”. It can show extremely strong vitality and is a high-end jadeite.

2) Yang Green: Also known as "Hibiscus Green", it has a lighter tone, slightly yellower than emerald green, and is bright green, appearing fresh and lively, very suitable for young girls.

3) Bean green: The color is uneven, sometimes yellowish or bluish, and appears in patches. It is a mid-range jadeite.

4) Qingshui Green: It is a light green color that gives people a simple and elegant feeling.

5) Blue water and clear oil: Because it contains omphacite minerals, when green is tinged with blue, it is called blue water, just like the orchid hue reflected in the water of a mountain pond. When the color is green with a grayish or dark color, it is called oil clear.

6) Anthocyanin: The green color is uneven, with different shades and a gradual transition, and the green is a bit black.

7) Dark green: also known as black jadeite, it looks black but is actually dark green or dark green. If you look closely, you will find green in black and black in green, and it appears green under strong light.

3. Purple : Purple jade is also called toon color or violet jade. Because its color is similar to the color of toon buds of toon trees, it is called toon color. Purple represents wealth and is a symbol of good fortune. Common purple can be divided into eggplant purple and pink purple, but purple jade generally has coarser grains and a granular feel is often visible.

4. Black : Its color is pure black, and there is basically no green color when it is illuminated. The dark tone appears masculine and full, exuding the spirit of justice of the Chinese nation. It is generally used for carving Zhong Kui and the black-faced Bao Gong.

2. Secondary color : It refers to the color formed by foreign minerals after the formation of jade. It is mainly distributed on the surface of jade. According to the color, it is mainly divided into jade color (yellow jade, red jade) and secondary oil-clear color. Red jade represents joy, yellow jade symbolizes brilliance and is a color of pride. Jadeite of good quality is rare and has collection value.

3. Combination color : When two or more colors are combined together, it is called the combination color of jadeite, such as:

1. Fu Lu Shou: It is composed of jadeite, green and purple, representing the traditional Chinese gods of fortune, wealth and longevity respectively. This kind of jade is called tri-color jade, or Fu Lu Shou jade. In fact, "Fu Lu Shou" is just a general term for jadeite with three different colors, and there is no regulation on what the specific colors should be.

2. Spring-color: Jadeite with both violet and green colors. “Spring” means violet and “color” means green. Chundaicai refers to a piece of jade or a piece of jade jewelry with purple and green colors. The jadeite called Chundaicai was formerly called "Yuandaicai", but later it was used incorrectly and now people only know about Chundaicai.

3. Yellow and green: Yellow jade and green are complementary to each other, with yellow in green, just like a scene of harvest in autumn. Yellow-green is a very rare variety of jade because it must have both primary green and secondary yellow, which makes it more difficult to form and rarer than single green jade. The reason why yellow-green jadeite is precious is not only because of its rarity, but more importantly, it is also highly ornamental. The simultaneous existence of yellow and green colors in a piece of jade material gives jade carving masters more room for imagination and creativity. The carefully designed and carved yellow and green color combination works have bright colors and strong contrast, which is endlessly interesting.

4. White-based green: The texture is dry and delicate, with distinct green and white, reflecting the concept of one "green" and two whites, "green-green" and "white".

5. Floating Blue Flowers: White jade is distributed with strip-shaped dark green to bluish-green color bands. If it is relatively transparent, it is called ice-type floating blue flowers and is of relatively high value. Jade floating flowers refer to the distribution of color on jade. From the appearance, the floating flowers are a piece or a group of scattered colors composed of color roots and color spots. In fact, it is green or blue distributed in the form of silk threads, dots, and layers on the base of jade. The color of the floating flowers is the color-causing ions brought into the jade during the formation of jade, and thus blends with the base. The base of jade, that is, the basic part of jade except for the color, has silky green or blue floating on the base, which is called floating flowers. If there is green on the base, it is a green flower, and if there is blue on the base, it is a blue flower.

2. Jade Color Grade

According to the standards of "positive, strong, positive and even": in different color systems: green is the best, followed by purple, white and black; among the green category, emerald green is the best, purple and black are the best in terms of "positive, strong, positive and even", and ice white is the best in terms of white.
