How is jade jewelry set? Good inlay is more valuable

Since ancient times, China has integrated the relationship between jade and people. Jade has been endowed with many traditional spirits and connotations. It is also regarded as a carrier of China's thousands of years of cultural heritage and a symbol of classical charm, which has lasted for thousands of years.

Jade is distinguished from other gemstones by its warmth, translucency, rich colors, and hard texture. Over a long period of time, it has formed a jade culture with national characteristics and extended to a variety of jade art works. Every excellent jade work carries the exploration and accumulation of the ancients and embodies the spirit and wisdom of their ancestors. Today, the scarcity of jade materials, the development of the industry and the increasingly close international exchanges have forced designers to have a broader vision and more comprehensive professional skills when creating jade jewelry.

Jewelry designers need to draw design sketches based on the shape, size, etc. of the jade raw materials.

After the design draft is completed, it is handed over to the skilled jewelry masters to complete their works.

The inlay process is generally divided into computer pattern making, metal pattern making, computer wax spraying, mold pouring, welding, mold holding, inlaying, polishing, electroplating and other processes.

Jade carving originated from auspicious blessings and other beautiful things and emotional sustenance. It is a kind of cultural inheritance and artistic accumulation. Jade inlay is based on this and, through the designer's ingenuity, gives jade the practical function of decoration and wearing.

As an ancient traditional handicraft, inlay occupies an important position in the jewelry industry with its fine production capabilities. China's inlay art has a long history and unique style. The inlay history of jade as an ornament began with the Qing Dynasty royal family and Empress Dowager Cixi's love for jade.

Old-style jade inlays are mostly made with gold, while modern jade inlays are mainly made with K gold, platinum and small diamonds. Through the shining, dazzling and blurred light, it highlights the rich, luxurious, delicate and charming nature of jade, organically combining tradition and modernity, classic and fashion, representing the fashion and popular trends of jade. The main inlay styles include rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, etc.

Modern people's demand for and aesthetic standards for jade jewelry have also changed a lot. Inlaid jade has become more fashionable, and the processing technology has also been developed. With the fusion of Western gem jewelry culture and Eastern jade culture, there are more and more inlaid jade jewelry. The benefit of this is that it sets off the bright green color of jade, and it also protects the jade itself.

Inlay

1. Wax inlay

Wax inlay is also a type of stone inlay, usually with zircon or crystal stones. It is simpler than other inlays and can be mastered quickly.

2. Prong setting

This is the most common and relatively simple inlay technique. Claw setting is a method of using metal claws to secure jadeite to a bracket (setting). There are two types of claw setting: single-grain setting and group setting. Single-grain setting means only setting one larger gemstone on the bracket to set off and reflect the brilliance and value of the main stone.

3. Clip-in

Clip setting is also called track setting, force setting or wall setting. It is a setting method in which a groove is machined on the side of the setting, the gem is placed into the groove, and then pressed firmly. This method is often used in setting side stones of high-end jewelry. In addition, some square or trapezoidal jadeite or diamonds are best set using the force setting method.

4. Bezel setting

Bezel setting is also called edge setting. It is a process of surrounding a gemstone with a metal border. It is mostly used for larger gemstones, especially those with arched surfaces, because it is not easy to fasten larger arched gemstones with claw setting, and the long claws affect the overall appearance.

5. Nail setting

Nail setting is the process of using small nails on the edge of jade to fix the jade on the diamond position. It is mostly used for setting side stones in group settings, and its arrangement and distribution vary. Common arrangements include linear arrangement, planar arrangement, regular arrangement, and irregular arrangement. Depending on the number of nails, it can be divided into two-nail setting, three-nail setting, four-nail setting and dense nail setting.

6. Inlay

The process of setting is to extrude a circle of metal edge on the edge of the setting to press the gemstone. This setting method is mostly used for small gemstones.

Many people have two wrong views on the backing inlay of jadeite:

First, high-end jadeite has no bottom limit;

Second, the back cover is inlaid to cover up flaws.

These are all very one-sided statements.

In fact, there are three reasons why jade is sealed:

The first is safety. The K-gold backing can protect the main jade from damage and is convenient to wear. The tight package is also safer, and the probability of the main jade falling off during wearing is lower.

The second is beautification. Using K-gold as the back cover can focus the color of the glass-ground jadeite and make it look more beautiful.

The third is cleanliness. The back cover can keep the bottom clean and not easy to hide dirt. Through strict testing with an infrared spectrometer, even the back cover can be confirmed to be natural A-grade.

With the return of the global retro trend, traditional Chinese elements have been reawakened. Fashionable young people no longer limit their focus to diamonds, yellow platinum, colored gemstones, etc., but are increasingly appreciating the unique classical and implicit beauty of jade. With the gradual improvement of consumption levels and the continuous updating of aesthetic concepts, jewelry and jade have become the indispensable first choice of decorative accessories in people's work, life and social occasions. With the joint efforts of jade carving masters and jewelry designers, I believe that the design space for jade jewelry such as "gold inlaid jade" will become larger and larger, and will be favored by more and more consumers.
