We all know that when a piece of jade appears rigid or lustrous, it means that it is of high quality and of extraordinary value. So, regarding these two industry terms that describe high-end jadeite, do you know what the difference is between them? I will briefly explain it to you today. The so-called rigidity of jade specifically refers to the fact that jade visually appears to have a glass-like cold luster and hard texture due to the perception of light. Generally, jade can only appear in a fully rigid state when the jade quality is fine enough, the internal crystal structure is dense enough, the hardness is high, the water head is good, and the polishing process is sophisticated enough. Although the rigidity of jade is reflected in the sense of light, the hard texture of its own material is mainly felt from the sense of light, which is obviously different from the jade's luster. The so-called jade's luster is mainly related to the jade's water quality, its own shape, polishing angle, etc. Specifically, it refers to the phenomenon that the surface of jade presents a white, soft, hazy light after being affected by light. Generally, as long as the quality and transparency of the jade are good enough, it is possible to appear. Compared with the hard feeling of jadeite when it is tough, the light presented by jadeite when it is shiny is softer. Therefore, although both are professional terms used to describe high-quality jadeite, there are obviously obvious differences in their definitions. However, generally speaking, there is a certain relationship between hardness and luster, because most jadeite with hardness will also have luster at the same time, especially when the jadeite reaches at least the ice level, such coexistence phenomenon often occurs. But on the other hand, jadeite that is shiny is not necessarily hard.
