For jadeite, the more water it has, the better? The actual situation is this

“Will jade become more moist the more you wear it?” “My jade bracelet has some cottony spots that haven’t melted away. Will it melt away after wearing it for a while?” People nourish jade and jade nourishes people. Will jade become more moist the more you wear it?

People often ask this question. Faced with these questions, many jade dealers often say that jade will become more smoother the more you wear it. What is the actual situation? Will jade become smoother the more you wear it? It’s actually not difficult to answer this question. We can first start with the formation and composition of jade. Before explaining this problem, I would like to say that jadeite is not described as “smooth” but generally as “watery”. "Run" is generally used to describe Hetian jade.

As the "king of jade", jadeite belongs to jadeite. To put it simply, it is jade with relatively high hardness. Since the hardness is relatively high, it also means that the density is very high, and therefore, the gaps between the tiny particles that make up jade are very small. At the same time, pure jade, after it is formed, actually has no color. So, why are most of the jade we see colored?

This is because other mineral elements have infiltrated into jade during the long process of jade formation over billions of years. The infiltration of different mineral elements will give jade different colors. The most typical is the infiltration of chromium. When pure jade is infiltrated with chromium, it will appear green. With these as a foundation, it is easier to understand whether wearing jade will make it more moisturized.

When we wear jade for a long time, the sweat and oil continuously secreted in the skin will penetrate into the jade through the gaps between the tiny jade particles and the cracks in the fine lines of jade. The sweat that penetrates into the jade will react chemically with the chromium ions inside the jade. Through this subtle chemical reaction, we will visually feel that the green part is enlarged.

At the same time, the oil secreted by the skin that also penetrates through these channels will also exist inside the jade, making the jade feel more moisturized when reflecting light. These oils will also bring out the green color in the jade and thus reflect the green. From these aspects, it seems that the more you wear jade, the more watery and moist it becomes.

In fact, this is all due to the intervention of the human body, which causes subtle changes inside the jade, but the jade itself has not changed much. After all, the structure of jade is formed in a low-temperature and high-pressure environment over billions of years. A hundred years of human life is just a brief moment for jade, and basically no structural changes will occur. Even the slightest changes are not discernible to the naked eye.

Of course, this is the best case scenario. If we do not pay attention to maintenance while wearing the jade and often expose it to high temperatures and direct sunlight, it will cause great damage to the jade. Finally, I want to say that all of these are based on one fundamental principle, that is, the jade is A-grade.

If you buy B-grade, C-grade, or B+C-grade jade, it will not become greener and more moist after wearing for a long time. Instead, the color may fade, the surface may lose its luster, and the transparency may decrease.
