Jade carving, highly difficult intaglio carving technique!

Jade carving, highly difficult intaglio carving technique!

China is a vast country with rich resources. There are great economic and cultural differences between the north and the south. Jade carvings often reflect local cultural characteristics.

Therefore, my country's jade carving is divided into several major schools, and the carving techniques include intaglio carving, relief carving, and hollow carving.

There is a saying in the industry that "30% material and 70% craftsmanship". The "craftsmanship" here refers to the carving work, which shows its importance.

So, in jade carving, which technique is the most difficult to operate? I believe many jade carving masters would answer - Yin carving .

Yin carving, also known as sunken carving, refers to a carving technique in which the surface of the carving material is carved into a depression, so that the text or pattern is recessed under the hook edge and lower than the plane of the material.

This carving technique requires very skilled and accurate techniques to make the lines have starting and ending points, pauses, and effects of depth and shallowness.

The intaglio technique of jade carving is to use carving tools to carve and carve out points, lines, surfaces, or a combination of these elements on the carving surface of jade materials and jade articles to express lines, fonts or pictures.

The biggest feature of negative carving is its 3D visual effect. When viewed from the front, the pattern lines are dark and dark, giving it a strong three-dimensional feel.

Compared with positive line carving, negative line carving is more difficult and requires more attention to the carver's knife skills and sense of lines.

Intaglio engraving requires the engraver to have a profound foundation in calligraphy and painting, especially in calligraphy and line drawing. It is difficult to have a painting in mind and follow the shape and situation. Without thousands of times of practice and contemplation, it is difficult to do it well.

Intaglio jade carving must be completed in one go, the knife must not break, no traces of continuation can be left, and no repeated modifications can be made.

Therefore, you should hold your breath and concentrate when cutting, and move the knife cleanly and neatly.

The process and time required to make a good jadeite carving is relatively long. If there is any mistake during the process, it is very likely that a good material will be wasted.

In addition, Yin carving is also very particular about the material of the jade.

Only jade materials with dense and delicate structure, smooth surface and moderate pores are suitable for intaglio engraving. Otherwise, cracks and broken edges will easily occur when the knife is used.

Intaglio carving is not only suitable for jadeite, but can also be widely used on other different materials, such as amber, wood carving, stone carving, seal carving, bamboo carving, etc.

Each exquisite Yin-carved jadeite is the result of a great deal of hard work by the craftsmen. From an ordinary raw stone to its final transformation into a beautiful finished product, it requires not only a pair of eyes that can discover beauty, but also a pair of hands that can create beauty.

The carving master is endowed with a pair of hands of creation by God, bringing many spiritual objects to the world. No matter whether they are worn or played with, it is often said: the fun can only be understood, not expressed in words.
