2. Jadeite with cracks.

It is not terrible if jade has flaws, and there is room for rescue if the carving fails. However, if cracks appear, it will be a big problem.

Cracks are fatal to jade because they mean that the firmness of jade is destroyed and it is easy to break. Sometimes even if you don't bump into it, it will break into pieces after a while!

3. “Eggshell” jade.

What is eggshell jade? The jade grains are coarse and the water content is low. Such jade is not transparent and has no beauty. It is difficult to sell and cannot be sold at a good price.

If you want to sell it, you have to dig hard. If you dig too thin, the material will become transparent and of course it will become eggshell jade. This kind of jade will break if squeezed, so there is no possibility of appreciation.

4. Jade that is carved too much.

There is nothing wrong with carving jade, and it is also a manifestation of art. However, excessive carving has exceeded the normal demand for jade, and this is a problem.

The elaborate carvings indicate that the jade has many flaws. Only through carving can these flaws be concealed, making the jade look like a flawless top-quality product.

Under normal circumstances, craftsmen would certainly be reluctant to use the knife to carve more, and would try to use the least amount of knife work to restore the natural beauty of jade. Therefore, the more the jade is carved, the less valuable it is.

However, some of the better quality materials, with too many cracks, will be concealed through sophisticated carving and complicated knife techniques, thus achieving the magical effect of turning decay into something special.
