Production and identification methods of C-grade jadeite

Production and identification methods of C-grade jadeite

Artificially colored jadeite is fake in color. Generally, raw materials with coarse particles and a certain porosity are used.

The production process of C-grade jadeite

1. The first step is material selection. Generally, jadeite with medium-coarse grain structure and certain porosity should be selected as raw material (jadeite with too dense structure is not suitable for dyeing due to its low porosity). After cutting and grinding into finished products, use dilute acid to wash away oil and surface impurities, and then place them in an oven-type furnace for drying and heating. Heating can achieve the effect of expanding pores.

2. Then soak the jade into the prepared dye solution and heat it to speed up the dye solution's penetration into the jade. There are many types of dyes used for dyeing. You should choose dyes that are not easy to fade, are similar to natural jade, and are easy to penetrate into the interior of jade.

3. Jade is usually soaked in the dye solution for one to several weeks. After the colored jade is dried, the dye is precipitated in the pores of the jade, giving the jade its color.

4. Finally, stew wax for protection to prevent it from being dissolved by water and improve the gloss of the jade piece.

Identification method

1. Surface texture

There are also reticulations on the surface of dyed jade, which are the same as the acid-etched reticulations of B-grade jade. For details, please refer to the previous article

2. Color distribution along the gap

The green color of dyed jadeite tends to concentrate in small cracks and fill the gaps between grains along the cracks, similar to tree roots. The distribution of green dye is like small roots growing from large roots, and then capillary roots growing from small roots. Natural cracks and intergranular pores are colorless.

3. Color shape

The color distribution of dyed jade is often relatively uniform, but there are often mottled green, that is, the green has changes in depth, and there are irregular green spots of varying depths, which is mainly caused by the reflection of its jadeite.
