The easiest explanation and identification of jadeite ABCD products

Jade carries the jade culture of our Chinese nation. At the same time, natural jade also has the effect of nourishing health. But it is worth noting that in recent years, with the development of technology, more and more fake jade has flowed into the market, poisoning people. Today we will help you understand what natural jade is and what fake jade is.

In the industry, we define jade as natural jade and fake jade. Natural jade is also called A-grade jade, and fake jade refers to B-grade, C-grade, D-grade or B+C-grade jade. It is worth noting that ABCD do not refer to the grade of jadeite, they only refer to natural, unnatural and counterfeit jadeite. Unscrupulous merchants often mislead consumers by describing ABCD goods as graded jadeite, but they actually have ulterior motives.

What do the ABCD grades of jadeite specifically refer to? Let’s take a closer look here. First of all, A-grade jade refers to pure natural jade, which has only undergone physical processing such as carving and polishing, but does not include physical processing such as high-temperature heating and baking, because high temperature will destroy the structure of jade (jade is formed in a special geological environment of high pressure and low temperature). The structure of jadeite will be destroyed when heated and baked at high temperatures, resulting in variant jadeite or baked jadeite. A-grade jade has not undergone any chemical treatment, and has not been artificially falsified by high heat, high pressure, glue injection, etc. It has a natural texture and color, without being dyed or injected with glue, and is known as A-grade jadeite.

Here I would like to briefly introduce to you the characteristics of natural jadeite. Jade is a polycrystalline mineral aggregate mainly composed of jadeite. Its main component is sodium aluminum silicate, and it also contains pyroxene and amphibole minerals. Its luster is vitreous to sub-vitreous. The internal particles of the jade are in a crystalline and interwoven fibrous structure. The crystal particles have the property of "fly wings" of emerald green. When lightly struck, they make a crisp and pleasant sound. The jade has a high density and feels pressurized when touched. Its polished surface has an orange peel effect and is rich in color.

Secondly, B-grade jade refers to jade that has been cleaned of impurities inside the jade through chemical means such as strong acid soaking, boiling and erosion, and then injected with glue to form a transparent and uniform jade. Many consumers buy jade that is transparent, has no cotton or impurities, and is very cheap. This is B-grade jade, also known as "bleached and washed goods."

The characteristic of B-grade jade is that the jade flesh inside is clean, transparent and shiny. Careful observation with the naked eye reveals that its texture is loose and the internal structure of the jade is not tight enough. The surface luster of B-grade jade is dull and the reflectivity is not strong. It has an obvious plastic feel and does not have the unique fly-wing texture and waxy luster of jade. The sound of knocking on B-grade jade is dull and not pleasant. In addition, after being soaked in strong sulfuric acid, obvious signs of corrosion can be observed on the surface of the jade with the naked eye. These characteristics are all manifestations of B-grade jadeite. Since B-grade jadeite has been treated with strong acids, wearing it will affect your health.

Then, C-grade jadeite refers to jadeite with a relatively poor base, which is not treated with strong acid washing to remove impurities, but is only chemically dyed to increase its hue and appearance. Since the internal structure and texture of C-grade jade are not changed, its gloss and density are basically the same as natural jade. However, because it is dyed, the color appears dull and lifeless. The color looks very unnatural and will fade over time.

The most popular jadeite on the market now is B+C grade jadeite, which is jadeite that is made by combining the two chemical methods of B grade jadeite and C grade jadeite. That is, jadeite that is washed with strong acid to remove impurities and then injected with glue and dyed. After processing, B+C grade jade will appear crystal clear and colorful, and look beautiful in all aspects, but this type of jade is also very harmful to the human body. We call B+C grade jadeite "beautiful poison".

To identify this type of jade, we can combine the methods of identifying B-grade jade and C-grade jade to observe and discover together. We can also increase the weight from the density. Here, the weight of the jade in the hand is obviously not enough, and it does not have the pressure of natural jade.

Finally, D-grade jade refers to other minerals that are not jade, also known as counterfeit jade. Usually this type of D-grade jade has some similarities with natural jade. Common D-grade jadeite includes albite jade "Shuimozi", quartzite jade "agate, chalcedony", etc. Shuimaozi is a companion mineral of jadeite, but the sound when knocked is slightly dull, different from the crisp sound of knocking jadeite. Its density is also not enough. It feels light when placed on the hand, and its surface lacks rigidity. It does not have the properties of jadeite fly wings, but it is very transparent. Agate chalcedony is very easy to distinguish from jadeite. Its density is much lower than that of jadeite. The interior of the jade is cryptocrystalline and the internal particles cannot be seen, while jadeite has a crystalline structure and the internal particles of the jade can be seen.

There is also serpentine jade "Xiu Yu" which is often made into D-grade jadeite. Its colors are mostly dull yellow-green, fruit green, and white, and the color is relatively uniform and soft, with a good jadeite feel. It has a waxy luster and low hardness, and it is easy to distinguish it from the glass luster of natural jadeite. There are still a lot of D-grade jadeite on the market, but if you keep in mind the characteristics of natural jadeite and observe carefully, it will be easy to distinguish them.

Friends of jade, do you understand the ABCD grades of jade? By improving our awareness, we can avoid taking detours and falling into traps.
