Using carving examples to illustrate the application and techniques of "color separation" in jadeite color matching

In jade carving, for colored jade, jade carving masters will generally carve the colors skillfully. The key to the effect of jadeite color is the color separation. Only when the color separation is handled naturally and vividly, the finished work will be natural and vivid. Otherwise, it will be stiff and unnatural!

This red-skinned Damakan jadeite has average jade quality inside, but the red fog layer has very good water quality and considerable thickness. It is a very distinctive piece of jadeite.

Such distinctive jade is most suitable for clever carving. Based on the owner's intention and the characteristics of the material, the jade carving master finally decided to carve it into a pendant with the theme of Buddha: the composition makes full use of the red fog layer and the white meat, and performs a non-abrupt "color separation treatment" on them. The white meat part is made into a Buddha cave, which can cover up the poor water quality of the white meat after carving; the red fog layer is designed with Buddha, and the layer of red fog with water quality is like the Buddha's robes. This "color separation treatment" is very clever!

The pattern is carved on the jade in high relief, and the red and white colors are organically combined together. The Buddha is in the foreground, with bright and attractive colors that attract the eye; the Buddhist cave is the background, with a hazy white color that embellishes the main body. The red and white colors embellish and respond to each other, making the pattern appear to have a main and a secondary, far and near, real and imaginary, which is very beautiful, and all these visual effects are the natural result of "color separation processing"!

The back is framed with red mist, and a Buddhist theme element - lotus is carved inside. It not only enriches the pattern content on the back, but also embellishes the Buddha theme, and also plays a certain role in regulating and diverting water. In terms of carving layout, the red and white colors are also "color-separated" without any abruptness!

"Color separation" is the most basic skill in carving. It requires jade carving masters to have a large database of themes, and to be able to match and combine themes and patterns according to factors such as the color form, depth, and distribution of jade. They can separate the key colors from the secondary colors, and lay out the main themes. In this way, the main color of the theme is used to design the main body of the theme, and the secondary color is used to design the embellishment elements of the theme. Only in this way can the colors be separated to attract the audience's attention!
