Jade carving is a unique skill in my country. It has a long history, exquisite craftsmanship, and diverse styles. It is known as the "wonderful work of oriental art" and is well-known throughout the world. Over thousands of years of development, our outstanding jade carvers have created many unique jade carving techniques. Many people regard carving as one of the factors in evaluating the value of jade, so in this article we will take you to learn in detail about the common jade carving techniques. Technique 1: Round Sculpture: Round sculpture is also called three-dimensional sculpture. As the name suggests, it requires the sculptor to carve from all directions: front, back, left, right, top, middle and bottom. The finished product is a three-dimensional sculpture that can be appreciated from multiple directions and angles. Its advantages are also very obvious. It allows viewers to appreciate its beauty from multiple angles and see its different sides. However, the selection of jade materials is quite strict and it is not suitable for carving natural scenes. Technique 2: Relief: As the name suggests, relief means that the image "floats" up from the plane. This means that the method of compressing the volume is used to carve raised patterns or shapes on the surface of the jade raw material. The concave and convex changes vary and are not restricted by form. It is mainly appreciated from the front. According to the different degrees of compression of space, relief can be subdivided into shallow relief, medium relief and deep relief. Each of the three has its own characteristics and is splendid. Generally, jade carvings will combine the three carving methods to fully display the beauty of jade. Technique 3: Openwork: Openwork carving, also known as hollow carving, is based on relief carving, in which certain parts equivalent to the base color or background, as well as some parts of the back are hollowed out, so that the carving is not limited to one side of the jade material. The back is mostly expressed in the form of a screen. The purpose is to make the outline of the carved image clearer and to give the object a transparent and flexible sense of space. The openwork carving process is complex, difficult to produce, time-consuming and labor-intensive, but it has the best visual effect. Technique 4: Intaglio carving: Yin carving is also known as sunken carving. The carved content is recessed, so that the text or group is recessed under the hook edge and lower than the plane of the material. It relies on the jade carver's skilled and accurate techniques to make the lines have starting and ending points, pauses, and depth effects. The earliest text engraving was seen on seals and later developed into decorative carvings on various materials. Jade carving in my country has a long history of development, and there are countless jade carvers, not to mention the carving techniques. This article is not comprehensive and only explains the four most common techniques. However, no matter how they change, the other techniques have some similarities with them. The editor is not very knowledgeable, so if readers have anything to add, you are welcome to leave a message in the comment section. fcgc66 fcpf18 |
