A piece of jade worth 1,000,000, I will teach you these few tricks, do you understand?

With the development of society, jade, especially jadeite, has gradually moved from being exclusive to the rich and powerful to the general public. However, jade appreciation is a profound subject. It is not something that can be learned simply by comparing prices from three stores and looking more and buying less. Many jade lovers still have many misunderstandings in jade appreciation. Today, Consultant Zhao will share with you some common misunderstandings in jade appreciation. Only by getting rid of these misunderstandings can we better appreciate the beauty of jade.

Myth 1: Green jade is the most valuable

Although green has always been the most respected color of jade, not all green jade is good jade. Jade has many colors, in addition to green there are also red, yellow, blue, purple, white and so on. “Experts look at the quality, laymen look at the color.” People who understand jade know that the value of jade is not just about its color! Green jadeite has a beautiful color, but its value may not be high if its quality is poor. For example, the value of bean-type green jadeite is much lower than that of glass-type white jadeite. Moreover, even green jadeite can be dyed and faked. Therefore, if the jade is good and moist, has a high degree of transparency and a fine texture, then whether it is green, red or purple, it is extremely precious, its value will not be low, and it has collection value!

But many people still don’t know how to identify the quality of jade. For example, if a piece of jade is a playground, the crystal particles are the people standing on the playground. If the people standing are a group of children, it is difficult to see, which means the species is fine; if the people standing are a group of adults, it is obvious, which means the species is coarse. If these people are lined up tightly together, they are of the old species; if these people stand loosely, they are of the young species. If it is a large group of people huddled together closely, it is old beans; if it is a group of children pounding loosely, it is new ice. Isn’t this analysis much easier to understand?

Myth 2: Fluorescence and luminescence are the same thing

Fluorescence and fluorescent light have the same sound, but they are actually two different things. Don't listen to the merchants' nonsense and confuse the difference. The luminescence of jade is an optical phenomenon that can be seen by the naked eye. When shaking a colorless ice or glass jade ring, you can see a soft, hazy white light on the jade ring, just like the feeling of the moonlight blocked by a thin layer of clouds on the Internet. The luster is due to the extremely high transparency of glass jade, which makes the jade look crystal clear.

Fluorescence is the fluorescence emitted by jade when it is stimulated by external energy under ultraviolet fluorescent light. Generally speaking, natural jade has no fluorescence. In other words, jade that has fluorescence is most likely not natural jade, but artificially treated jade. For example, B-grade jade that has been injected with glue will show fluorescence under ultraviolet light.

Myth 3: Old pit jade is definitely better than new pit jade

We often hear about old pits and new pits, but many people don’t know what they mean specifically. It seems that all jade is said to be old mine, while some brick materials are called new mines. So whenever you hear an old pit, it is good, and a new pit is bad! In fact, old mines and new mines are just definitions of the excavation time of some mines. It is not a definition of whether jade is good or bad. In recent years, many people use the terms "old mine" and "new mine" to refer to the quality of jade. However, consumers do not understand what is an old mine and what is a new mine, so many merchants will mislead consumers by saying that the bad brick materials are from new mines.

Myth 4: Jade is jade, and jade is jade

As the saying goes, "The most beautiful stone is jade." Influenced by traditional concepts, the current national standard calls many jade-like minerals jade. The common characteristics of modern jade are dense structure and relatively high hardness and toughness. However, many people confuse jadeite and jade, thinking that jadeite is jade and jade is jadeite. In fact, jadeite is a type of jade. The relationship between jade and jadeite is one of containment and being contained. Jadeite has different colors and is sought after by many people.

Myth 5: The more uniform the green, the better

Jadeite that can be made into full green is generally not made into segmented green. Indeed, jadeite that is full green looks "a feast to the eyes". But in fact, such perfect jade is collection-level and basically not available on the market. Now when we see some jade in the market that is emerald green all over, has very even color distribution and is very cheap, we have to be careful whether it is a fake. The vast majority of jade has flaws. After all, jade is made up of granular minerals, so its green color is partially scattered, and there is a boundary between green and non-green.

Myth 6: Learning identification techniques on paper

With the rapid development of science and technology, jade optimization and processing technology is changing with each passing day. The knowledge in books has a lag because it cannot keep pace with the times. Therefore, it is not reliable to identify the authenticity of jade just by reading a few books. Even if you follow the identification methods in the book, you will still buy B-grade or fake products, because new processing technologies have emerged in the market, but the book has not had time to summarize and prevent them. In addition, what you learn from books is always superficial. It is more useful to look at real jade.

Myth 7: The ones that don’t change color are A-grade goods

With the increasing level of modern technology, some dyed jade can maintain its bright colors for up to 10 to 20 years. However, some natural red or yellow jade may change color in a relatively short period of time. This is mainly due to incorrect storage methods. For example, exposing them to acidic and alkaline chemicals, or keeping them in a high temperature environment for a long time may cause their color to change.

Myth 8: The older the jade, the better

Many people who love to collect jade are particular about collecting "ancient jade", thinking that the older the better, but in fact there is no distinction between ancient and modern jade collections. The history of jade is not long. After expert investigation and research, it was found that China's love for jade officially emerged, and the first recorded large-scale use of jade was in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the technological conditions were backward, there were not many jade raw materials, and the identification ability was poor. The texture of some ancient jade was not as good as the jade mined modernly. Modern jade jewelry is more refined and breathtaking.

Myth 9: The more complex the process, the better

With the change of aesthetics, modern people have abandoned complex designs in accessories and instead pursue simple, elegant and durable designs. In fact, only jade with slightly poorer texture, impurities or cracks requires the sculptor to carefully polish it and incorporate exquisite carving techniques to cover up its inherent shortcomings. Many high-quality jades are left uncarved and made into simple and elegant bracelets or ring faces. After all, perfect things don’t need too much decoration, they are perfect in themselves.

Myth 10: The rarer something is, the more valuable it is

Some natural jades are blessed with unique characteristics and spontaneously form interesting patterns under the nurturing of heaven and earth, such as shapes of animals, plants, landscapes, etc. Some collectors will hype them up and regard them as the best in the world, but in fact, "scarcity makes things valuable" also has to be followed as a principle. Rare jade must meet the conditions of excellent water quality and high quality to be valuable treasures.

Myth 11: The bigger the jade, the better

Many people only pay attention to the size and not the quality when buying or collecting jade. In fact, the first factor in buying jade is beauty. The beauty of jade lies in its naturalness, rarity, various colors, icy transparency, high hardness, and easy inheritance. Many small and exquisite pieces have a high price per unit weight and are more concentrated wealth, so size is not the key when buying jade, quality is the key to choice.
