Some little-known facts about jade

Some little-known facts about jade

China's jade culture can be traced back to the Neolithic Age. As a Chinese, you all know something about jade, especially jadeite, which has become a household name in recent years and has become a popular collectible. However, there is still a lot we need to learn about jade. You may not know these little-known facts?

1

Is jade available everywhere?

Many people think that my country has a vast territory and abundant resources. Since jade is so popular in my country, it should produce a lot of jade. But in fact, this view is wrong. There are many places that produce jade ore. Russia, Guatemala, Japan, the United States and other countries all produce jade, but the quality of jade produced in these places does not reach gem grade. 95% of the gem-grade jade in the world is produced in Myanmar. Therefore, we do not need to ask about the origin of the jade we see on the market, almost all of them are produced in Myanmar.

2

A glass of water is placed on the jade counter

If you have ever visited a jade market, you will definitely find that there is always a high-heeled glass filled with water on the jade counter. Is there anything special about this?

The first thing is to replenish water. Putting a cup of water can increase the humidity inside the counter and prevent the jade from "losing water", especially the tender jade, making it appear smoother and more lustrous. Secondly, the reason for using high-heeled glasses or other eye-catching cups is to bring out the overall style.

3

Why doesn’t Jade have a brand logo?

Jade is a luxury product, and it is common for top-quality jade to cost hundreds of thousands or millions. The rich who can afford it have long passed the stage of using logos to prove themselves. What's more, people who identify with jade generally have a high cultural literacy and a certain understanding of China's jade culture.

First of all, the era of using logos to directly emphasize identity and class will inevitably be weakened or even disappear in an increasingly open social environment. The emphasis will be on the quality of the product itself rather than the value added by the brand to the product. This will also allow the public to look at every product with a "fair" eye.

Secondly, the quality of jadeite varies. Jadeite of good quality is definitely made by famous artists and is not something that ordinary apprentices can touch. Most of these works from famous artists have been designed in advance. One more would be too much, one less would be too little. The characteristics of the material itself must be reflected appropriately.

To leave a logo mark on this smooth jade would be superfluous and counterproductive . On the contrary, for jadeite of lower quality, merchants are naturally unwilling to retain too many brand concepts.

Of course, not all jade jewelry is without logos, and they can often be seen on inlaid jade. Because engraving one's own brand logo on the inlay material does not affect the beauty of the jade, and can also reflect the design concept of one's own brand.

4

Do all inlaid jadeite need to be sealed at the bottom?

The inlay master has to decide whether to seal the back or not before inlaying. Generally speaking, jadeites that are chosen to have a covered backing have rich colors, which can make the colors more gorgeous and bright; jadeites that are not covered back have light colors and better water head, and not covering the backing can better project light onto the inlaid surface, highlighting the moisture and smoothness of the jadeite.

Of course, this is not absolute. The backing also has the function of hiding the flaws of jade. The flawed areas are wrapped with gold to make it perfect. The back cover can also prevent oil and dirt from entering, making it easy to clean and maintain. Whether it is better to have a back cover or not depends on what one focuses on. Both have their pros and cons.
