To jade friends: This is the "Jade" news you should gossip about~

When talking about jadeite, we often use “red jadeite and green jadeite” to describe the two contrasting colors of jadeite. The color of jadeite can be divided into primary color and secondary color according to its origin. Green, white, etc. are primary colors, red, purple, yellow, etc. are secondary colors. Jade color is a general term for the red, yellow, brown and other tones in jade. The reason for its color is the influence of the iron element inside the jade. Due to the content of iron ions and oxidation-reduction, different colors are produced.

Secondary iron oxide is the main reason for the color of red and yellow jadeite. This substance often appears near the surface of jadeite rough material, mainly caused by some colloidal limonite substances penetrating into the gaps and microcracks of jadeite minerals.

After jade is formed in a low-temperature and ultra-high-pressure environment, iron ions penetrate into the jade to form the "jade color". The "jade color" generally only exists on the surface of jade, so many jades with jade can be processed into finished products with beautiful colors.

As far as the current market conditions are concerned, red jadeite has the highest value, followed by yellow jadeite. But in general, red and yellow jadeite of good quality is rare, so the value of red and yellow jadeite with fine quality and long water is still very high.

Pure natural red jadeite is rare nowadays. Natural jade color is normally distributed below the weathered surface or along the cracks of jade. Since the iron ions inside jade can be converted between divalent and trivalent ions, the "jade" commonly seen on the market today are all heat-treated.

Since the divalent and trivalent states of iron ions are reversible, the heat treatment of red and yellow jadeite is internationally recognized. It is an “optimization” process and a jadeite A-grade certificate can be issued. But generally speaking, natural red jadeite is more moist, while heat-treated red jadeite appears dry, has reduced transparency, and is too bright in color, giving people an unnatural feeling.
