Experts explain how to maintain jadeite. If you don’t understand these, no matter how good the jadeite is, its lifespan will not be very long!

When jade lovers buy their favorite jade, in addition to wearing and enjoying it daily, they should also understand and master some precautions about jade, such as: avoid dust as much as possible, avoid scratches or collisions with hard objects, prevent exposure to sunlight, rinse only with clean water, wipe with a soft white cloth, and avoid contact with chemicals such as detergents, soap, cosmetics, and perfume.

Precautions are merely equivalent to the usage instructions or instructions we are familiar with. To a certain extent, they ensure that jade will not be damaged intentionally or unintentionally due to human negligence. Their importance to jade is self-evident. However, this is not the end of jade collection. To maintain the stability of jade properties, long-term and orderly care, or maintenance, is required.

The purpose of jade maintenance is to reduce the impact of external factors on jade and stabilize the inherent properties of jade. Any maintenance of jade is beneficial and harmless and is essential. The commonly used jade maintenance methods are as follows:

Human support

The process of wearing and playing with jade is that people constantly rub and caress the jade, allowing the jade to repeatedly caress the skin of the palms, wrists, neck, face and other parts of the human body, promoting the jade to gradually eliminate its stone nature. The human cultivation method has a wide range of uses and is suitable for all occasions and all types of jade.

Water culture

The importance of water does not need to be emphasized. In practice, we find that the water contained in jade is an important factor in the stability of jade structure. In the dry season or in an environment where the air is too dry, jade cannot get proper moisture, and the internal moisture evaporates, causing it to become dry. In severe cases, cotton threads and cotton spots will appear. Water maintenance is a maintenance method adopted for this situation.

Glasses filled with water are often placed in jewelry and jade counters. The evaporation of water in the glass is used to regulate the air humidity, which has two effects on the jade in the counter: first, the water inside the jade will not evaporate in an environment with sufficient water vapor; second, the jade itself can replenish and absorb the water it needs. Increasing the humidity of the environment in which jade is located is an important method of water maintenance.

Jade is the most water-dependent jewel. Regularly soaking jade in clean water for more than half an hour can keep it shiny and moisturized.

Enclosure

The jade will be sealed in hard plastic bags for collection. This move is aimed at isolating the impact of environmental and climate change on jade, which is conducive to stabilizing the inherent properties of jade.

Oil

Oil maintenance is the most important maintenance method. Some jadeite will develop cotton threads and cotton spots after being stored for a period of time. Practical experience has shown that applying appropriate amount of oil can eliminate the cotton threads and cotton spots in a relatively short period of time and restore the jadeite to its original appearance. The method of oil maintenance is as follows:

1. Apply and maintain. Use a soft wool brush dipped in oil to carefully brush various parts of the jade several times. Place it in a dust-proof container or a sealed hard plastic bag. Observe the maintenance effect after a few days to add oil and apply oil regularly according to the condition of the jade.

2. Wipe and maintain. Use a soft cloth or cotton ball soaked in oil to wipe specific locations of the jade, especially the pits and depressions formed by carving. Also seal it in a hard plastic bag and store it, and check and re-oil it regularly.

3. Immersion. That is, soak the jade in a container filled with maintenance oil. You can make a homemade large-hole fine-wire net bag, safely hold the jadeite, and then hang it in the curing oil in the container. You can pull the rope connecting the net bag to retract and release the net bag, making it easy to observe the jadeite. After soaking the jade for more than half an hour, take it out and seal it for storage.

Oil selection: There are many common oils in life, but the oil used for jade maintenance must be selected. The best and most commonly used jade care oil is baby oil . The main ingredients of baby moisturizing oil are high-quality natural mineral oil and some natural moisturizing factors. Mineral oil is pure and mild, and has excellent sealing properties. After being applied to the surface of jade, it is easily absorbed and forms a moisturizing protective film on the surface, which can effectively lock in internal moisture, thereby moisturizing jade and retaining moisture, preventing jade from drying out and becoming cottony.

Wax

That is, apply a layer of liquid paraffin wax on the surface of jade, also called sealing wax, which has the same function as sealing.

Finally, I would like to remind all jade lovers that no matter what maintenance method you use, you must first use clean water to clean the dust, dirt and various attachments on the surface of the jade to ensure the maintenance effect.

Different jades often have different mineral compositions, chemical components, physical properties, formation environments, storage conditions, and so on. Therefore, in order to distinguish the differences between jades, different types of jade or different varieties of the same type of jade should be treated differently, with different emphases in the selection of maintenance methods and materials. In addition, it is also necessary to realize that any sophisticated maintenance method is only an auxiliary means to ensure the stability of jade properties.

Any method or means that changes the structure and texture of jade and can significantly improve the quality grade of jade has gone beyond the scope of maintenance and should be classified as artificial optimization.

Jade maintenance makes the perfect characteristics of jade appear fully and last longer

Proper maintenance can more or less improve the look and feel of the jade. The most important thing is to stabilize the properties of the jade, making it more warm and luxurious.
