Waxing and wax dipping are two completely different processes. Wax dipping is also known as "boiling wax" or "stewing wax" in the industry. So how do we identify whether jade is waxed or wax-immersed? 1. Observe with UV fluorescence The ultraviolet fluorescence of wax-immersed jade is stronger than that of waxed jade. It is usually a medium-intensity blue-white fluorescence, and may even have a strong blue-white fluorescence. Waxed jadeite has obvious fluorescence mostly in areas that are difficult to polish. 2. Paraffin wax aging and falling off Whether it is waxed or wax-immersed jade, it will fall off to varying degrees after a period of time, and the surface will absorb dust and dirt. Therefore, if dewaxing occurs, the luster will not look like glass but waxy, and the fiber interweaving structure is still intact, which is waxed jade. 3. Detect with infrared absorption spectrometer. Infrared absorption spectroscopy can better distinguish between waxed and wax-impregnated jadeite. But this requires professionals to operate, so if we need to know whether to wax or dip wax, just hand the jade to the jewelry testing department and wait for the results. Why shouldn’t you remove wax from newly purchased jade? Putting aside the question of whether heating jade can remove wax, the heating step itself is harmful to jade. Taking it out to wash after heating is even more harmful to the jade. Doing so can easily cause internal cracks in the jade, and even if there are no cracks, it will cause "internal injuries." Then why do some people try every possible means to remove the wax from the surface of jade? This is because many jade lovers misunderstand the jade waxing process as a jade processing and counterfeiting process! In fact, it is normal to have wax on the finished jade products, because the last step after jade is processed into finished products is to wax the jade, so the newly processed jade has wax, but the wax will evaporate after a period of time. It has no harm to the human body whether there is wax or not, because waxing is a traditional process. Waxing is done during the polishing process to make the surface of the finished jade product smooth, shiny, with a beautiful and uniform luster. The wax is melted and enters the tiny pits or cracks on the surface of the jade after polishing to fill the unevenness, make the surface smoother, and prevent the entry of oil stains. In addition to preventing the entry of oil stains, another purpose of waxing is to provide jade with a protective layer to prevent the moisture inside the jade from being lost easily.
