What is “C-grade” jade? How to identify?

C-grade jadeite refers to jadeite that has been artificially dyed, where color is artificially added to the originally colorless jadeite.

There are many methods of dyeing. Most of them are to heat the jade first to increase the cracks between the crystal particles, and then place it locally in the dye to allow the dye to enter the jade along the cracks. It mainly involves dyeing white jade with green or violet, or adding green to light green jade to make the color rich and bright, but its color will fade and become dull over time.

The easiest way to identify C-grade jade is to look carefully at the color distribution of the jade under the light. You can often see that the color of the jade is distributed along the cracks. This color distribution is unnatural and looks very much like capillaries. In this case, it can be concluded that the color is not naturally present in the jade, but has entered from the outside.

In addition, the color of dyed jade does not have the color root of jade. It often floats on the surface of jade. The color is also "dead" and "dull", and it lacks the aura of natural color.

Because the color of C-grade jadeite is injected, it will change drastically if it is exposed to strong sunlight for two or three days. And even if you don’t expose it to sunlight, the color will fade within half a year. This kind of C-grade jade is very cheap and can also be used for decoration, but C-grade jade has no collection value. Please be careful when purchasing to avoid being deceived.
