Why was jade a luxury decades ago but everyone can own it today?

Jade is a type of jade. The high, medium and low-end jade available in the market meet the needs of different groups: the affordable ones are not expensive and have a large supply, so they can be worn as ornaments; the high-end ones are still only a few people who can actually own them. As a luxury item, jewelry-grade jade has considerable economic value due to its scarcity and beauty, but the people who can own it are still a minority with a certain economic strength.

Why was jade a luxury decades ago? Because most people were poor at that time! Why should anyone have it now? Because I have money now and can afford it! Decades ago, the living standards were still at the stage of just making a living, and only a small number of people had the money to buy jewelry. At that time, China was in a state of disrepair and everyone was working hard to make a living...the first thing to do was to solve the problem of food and clothing! Before the reform and opening up, even eating and dressing were problems, so why would we pursue luxury goods? In the past, there were more poor people than rich people, but now there are many people with spare money. Besides, even if you have money, you can only play quietly and no one dares to show off. Once you show off, it's called bourgeois liberalization and spiritual pollution, do you understand? To put it bluntly, we are poor and food and clothing are most important!

Also, the jadeite that was brought to the market at that time is still a luxury item even today. They were basically high-quality goods with high ice or full green. The mid- and low-end products on the market today did not exist at all. Those raw stones were treated like waste after being cut and would not be processed.

After the reform and opening up, jadeite entered the mainland market through border trade. After decades of hard work by jade merchants, it can be said that "the swallows that once flew in the courtyards of the rich and powerful have now flown into the homes of ordinary people." People always pursue a better life. Once their basic needs are met, they always want to show off. Jade. In the past, jade was a symbol of power and wealth. Now, as long as you have money, no one will care if you buy a jade seal with 10 dragons carved on it.

The mining technology has improved. It used to be manual work, but now it is mechanized + manual work, and the output of raw stones has increased. More raw materials mean more finished products. Haven’t you seen that in the antique markets of big cities, jade jewelry is sold just like side dishes in the vegetable market?

Of course, it should be emphasized that the price of jadeite is both affordable and not affordable. A high-end necklace or bracelet can cost tens of millions or even hundreds of millions, and ordinary people can only admire them from afar. But the market is more for mid- and low-end accessories, ranging from tens or hundreds to thousands or tens of thousands, which are more affordable and most people can afford them as long as they want to buy them.

Some people may say that the quality and grade are different, so the prices vary greatly. In addition, there are some things that are not known to outsiders at all, that is, some things are not jade at all. You should understand what I've said. If it’s not that thing, the price he asks for will not be the normal price of jadeite.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Always makes sense. In the past, mining was done by hand, but now it is done by machines, and the supply has increased greatly. A large amount of capital has poured into the market, which has expanded it a lot. Before machines were used for large-scale production, all jade was dug manually, so the excavation speed was very slow. Moreover, jade was difficult to transport in the deep mountains and could only be transported by horses and donkeys. Finally, it still depends on manual carving. So it will be very expensive to the buyer. Nowadays, excavation is done using large-scale machinery, and the speed is hundreds or thousands of times faster than before. Wherever there is jade, the Myanmar government has vigorously expanded roads to greatly shorten transportation time. The engraving process has also been greatly accelerated with the continuous improvement of machines. That’s why there are so many jade jewelry now, and the price is naturally cheaper.

Today, even porcelain-type jade is processed and made into low-end bracelets, with the cost of a pair being only 70 or 80 yuan. They are then sold in shopping malls, jewelry stores and other places in the north with a price tag of less than 1,000 yuan. Ultimately it is a question of economic level. Of course, these mid- and low-end jades basically have no room for appreciation. Jadeites that are qualified for appreciation and investment are still high-end products, or luxury goods! Secondly, the improvement of the level of artistic creation can allow the precious stones bestowed by God to be brought into full play in our hands, from large to small, from ornaments to hand pieces to accessories, each of which can be fully utilized. There are so many choices...everyone can have a work within their capabilities!

In addition, the jade market has gone from being a hot topic in previous years to being stable today, which at least shows that consumers have begun to invest rationally. In fact, this is also an inevitable trend of market laws. After all, jade is a high-end luxury product, which means it is a spiritual show-off. It is not of much use to the human body and is an item that can be desired or not. When our economic wealth suddenly became better and better and more and more, everyone began to become blind and inflated in their thinking, and made retaliatory demands for materials that were previously distant and untouchable. This has led to the jade phenomenon of today. Time, only time can make it return to normal, return to normal, we should treat jade with moderation.

Of course, the raw materials of jade are ultimately controlled by foreign military, political, and financial groups, and our consumers are the ones who take over after multiple transactions, so the price will definitely get higher and higher. In addition, the concept of jade quality standards is unclear. Factors such as B-grade, B+, C-grade or other grades arbitrarily impacting the market, misleading consumption, craftsmanship duplication, oversupply, and so on have led to the unpopularity of luxury goods such as jade.

As the market returns to rationality, consumers are becoming more mature. The market polarization will be more serious in the future. Collectible-level fine products will become increasingly scarce, and their prices will only rise higher and higher, but the prices of ordinary products will not increase much. People are divided into different classes, and the same goes for jade. Don't think that a piece of jade is a luxury product. Ordinary things will only become more and more ordinary.

Finally, the improvement of humanistic quality has led to a continuous rise in everyone's pursuit of beauty. In a broader sense, this has led to the rise of the domestic consumer market; in a narrower sense, it has increased the potential of individual consumers... This is a reflection of the quality of the nation!

Gold in troubled times, collection in prosperous times. As long as we continue to deepen reform and opening up, our lives will become more and more prosperous! Jade culture will surely flourish in the contemporary era! So, to sum up in one sentence. Contemporary people’s contemporary ideas…live in the present and be happy!
