Have you used these 5 common methods of identifying jadeite? It's all fake...

So how do you tell whether jade is genuine or fake? Just do a quick search on the Internet and you will see countless different methods... Today, I will tell you whether these "jade identification methods" are correct or not.

1. Fire identification method: Wrong

This is the most brutal identification method I have ever heard of. It involves wrapping a strand of hair around the jade and then burning it with a lighter. If the hair breaks, it is a fake, and if it does not break, it is a real one.

I don’t know which wicked person came up with this method, but the scarier thing is that everyone believed it!

In fact, this utilizes the principle of thermal conductivity. In addition to jadeite, other jades (such as chalcedony), or even any object with a smooth surface (such as glass, stainless steel, etc.), can achieve the same effect as long as you wrap your hair around it.

2. Percussion Identification: Somewhat reasonable

This method is to judge the authenticity by knocking on the jade and listening to its sound. If it is A-grade jade, the sound will definitely be crisp.

In fact, this method makes some sense, because the denser the crystal grains of jade, the clearer the sound. Unfortunately, the B-grade and B+C-grade jadeite on the market are all filled, and the sound they make is very crisp...this identification method is no longer useful.

Moreover, if you buy high-end jadeite, the merchant probably won't allow you to knock it. If you break it, the boss will probably be heartbroken.

3. Glass scratching method: Wrong

This is also a frequently heard identification method, which is to scratch the jadeite on the glass. If a mark can be scratched, it is real jadeite:

To be honest, this method is quite risky. If you use jade to scratch glass, the jade will be damaged. Moreover, in addition to natural jade, many artificial jades and artificial diamonds can also leave traces, which is completely meaningless.

4. Tongue Identification: Wrong

The first time Liao Shao heard of this identification method was on the variety show "Extreme Challenge"... Just lick the jade, and if you feel an electric shock, it is real.

There shouldn't be any fans who believe this, right? This is obviously a wrong identification method, so I won’t explain it in detail... If you pick up a stone from the roadside and lick it, you will feel a tingling sensation like an electric shock!

5. Water dripping method: Wrong

This is also a method that appeared in "Go Fighting" - drop a few drops of water on the jade, and then hold it upside down. If the water drops do not fall, it is real jade, if they fall, it is fake jade!

This method sounds somewhat reliable! It feels like some kind of characteristic of jade is used... But I have to tell you responsibly: the water drop identification method is also unreliable.

If you don’t believe it, you can drop a drop of water on the back of your spoon, turn it over and see if the water drop will fall down. Liao Shaogang did an experiment and found that water drops can stay on the spoon for a long time without falling. Could it be that Baojie is so rich that she uses jade to make spoons?

In short, whether the water droplets can drip down depends on the surface condition of the object and the size of the water droplets, and has nothing to do with whether the object is jade or not!

Let me introduce you to two reliable identification methods.

Alas, it seems that these folk methods are not reliable. What should we do? Don’t worry, I can teach you two effective methods to identify the authenticity of jadeite:

1. Observe the jadeite's properties

What does Cuixing mean? In fact, it is the intuitive expression of the mineral particles of jadeite after they are combined with each other, which can be seen by the naked eye. It is also an important sign for identifying the authenticity of jadeite. It can be divided into three categories:

① Flocs: The "cotton" and "stone flowers" contained in jade are one of the manifestations of jade properties.

② Orange peel effect: Under reflective conditions, when observing the polished surface of jadeite, you can see bumps and depressions of different sizes and directions, like orange peel. This effect is more prominent in A-grade jadeite.

③ Fly wings: When observing the polished surface of jadeite under reflective conditions, you can see white reflective spots like fly wings. When you turn the jade, the "fly wings" will appear to sparkle. However, it is difficult to see in well-polished jadeite.

2. Check the certificate

Liao Shao has said it countless times, but before you buy jadeite, you must look at the certificate! But not all "certificates" are accurate. There are three more authoritative appraisal agencies: CMA, CAL and CNAS.
