What do the “glue” and “fluorescence” of jade mean?

Speaking of jade "fluorescence" and "glue", those who are familiar with jade will certainly be familiar with it. Generally speaking, jade with "fluorescence" and "glue" can be defined as top-grade jade. However, although many collectors know these two terms, they still cannot fully understand what they mean.

Speaking of this "glue", it is a metaphor and it does not mean that there is really glue in the jade. How should I put it?

This type of jade gives people the feeling of glass glue that has just been squeezed out and has not yet completely solidified. The outside is still crystal clear but there are translucent areas in the core. These areas are not as thick as cotton, and seem to be there and not there, and emit a faint luster. If the jade has a sticky feeling, it means that the jade is old and genuine. The crystal structure of the stone is fine and no microcrystals can be seen.

"Fluorescence" is also called "light", which can be simply understood as the self-luminescence of jadeite through its own refraction in the absence of strong external light, which belongs to a type of diffuse reflection light system. The abnormally neat and orderly arrangement of the micro-crystals causes the overall refractive index to be obvious after the light enters. It is also possible that the crystal arrangement is not as neat as that of fluorescence, causing the light to be scattered by the micro-particles after entering and cannot become bright strong reflected light.

When the crystal particles are very small, that is, the species is very old, if the crystals are arranged in a more orderly manner, they will become shiny, if the crystals are arranged in a more disordered manner, they will become sticky.

The gel and luster can appear on a piece of jade at the same time, but not every piece of jade can have this phenomenon. This has a lot to do with the external conditions during the formation process of jade. The occurrence of glue and luster can be considered a relatively rare phenomenon in jade, so there is no doubt that the price will be higher than that of jade without this phenomenon.

What does it mean when jadeite fluoresces?

In recent years, colorless ice jade and glass jade have been continuously accepted and loved by consumers, and have gradually been favored by jewelers and consumers in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, becoming a fashion trend.

What people call the "feeling" of jade (currently mostly expressed as "clear") refers to a visual feeling produced by jade that is light in color and evenly distributed in jade with good transparency. Usually this is jadeite with good "water" and good "type", and its colors include light green, light blue, light blue-green, etc. Therefore, it has common folk names such as "green clear", "blue clear", "water green clear", "blue-green eyes", and "blue water eyes".

Nowadays, jadeite without green color, that is, without "clearness", such as colorless ice or glass jadeite with good "quality" and "water", is becoming increasingly popular, and its price is also rising. Folk jewelers describe this type of jade as having "lustre" or "fluorescence". What is the "fluorescence" of jade?

Fluorescence is used to describe an optical phenomenon of jade. When shaking the colorless ice jade ring, a soft, white, hazy light can be observed, like the feeling of the moon under thin clouds at night. Distributors describe this phenomenon as "ice-type (or glass-type) jade having 'fluorescein'", or "full of fluorescein", or "emitting vivid 'fluorescein'" and so on. This phenomenon often occurs in products such as colorless ice or glass jade earrings, jade necklaces, jade pendants and jade bracelets.
