Does Jade Have Culture?

Jade Color Culture

Green is the most important color in jade. Anyone who knows a little about jade should have heard the term "imperial green", which shows how deeply the "green" of jade is rooted in people's hearts. In the gem circle, we often see the "King of Gems" - diamonds, the "Queen of Jewelry" - pearls and so on, and every now and then there are princesses and princes pretending to be... Why does jade have a "king" but no "queen"?

Maybe Emperor Green Jadeite is a scumbag! The reason why he had been reluctant to choose a queen was that he found it difficult to make a decision. The reality is that it is indeed difficult to choose. If you have to choose, glass-type colorless jade may be the best candidate, but it is not the high-quality jade that is most popular in the market. For example, the popularity of high-ice jadeite with a sunny green color is just higher than that of glass-type colorless jadeite. The two are like the status of Empress Yixiu and Concubine Hua Nian Shilan in "The Legend of Zhen Huan".

I think Princess Jade is an easier choice than the Queen. Purple jade, especially the rich purple and eggplant purple , are somewhat related to the word "girlish".

When it comes to the Prince of Jade, there is basically no competition among the nine dragons for the throne, and the blue water material will definitely take the throne. Of course, it seems that there is a good chance of high ice-type blue flowers, but after all, it is difficult to have floating flowers. It is also possible to have beautiful and elegant flowers.

In addition to "enthrone kings and queens", the color of jade also has some specific elegant names.

For example, purple jade is also called spring jade. When purple and green appear on the same piece of jade, it can be called "spring color", also written as "Chun color". Jadeite with three or more colors can be called "Fu Lu Shou", pink and purple icy jadeite is called "full peach red", and so on, which has a bit of the underworld meaning.

Jadeite Rough Stone Trading Culture

As we all know, Myanmar is currently the only country in the world that produces gem-grade jadeite. In addition to the annual jadeite public auction, there are also numerous private transactions for first-hand jadeite raw stones. The Myanmar government stipulates that all jadeite transactions must be completed locally. The public auction uses bidding in Euros. There have been cases where Chinese jade merchants have used RMB to bid, resulting in certain economic losses. In addition, according to statistics in 2018, there are nearly 3,000 jade mining manufacturers of all sizes, and private transactions are also frequent. After the raw jadeite is transported to China, the cutting and processing into finished products are basically completed in Guangdong Province. Among them, Foshan Pingzhou Jade Market has become the first of China's four major jade markets due to its huge trading volume.

In addition to Pingzhou, there are also Guangzhou Hualin Jade Street, Sihui, and Yangmei. Among them, Yangmei Village, located in the west of Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, is known as the "Hometown of Gold and Jade". Since 1905, villagers have been engaged in jade processing, production and trade, which has a history of nearly a hundred years. So far, there are more than 400 jade processing and trading companies of all sizes in the village, accounting for nearly 80% of the total number of 550 households in the village. There are more than 1,500 people professionally engaged in jade processing and trade, accounting for 60% of the total population of 2,500 in the village.

The domestic trading sources of jadeite raw stones are basically firmly controlled by family businesses that have been passed down for generations. They are the real big dealers in the jadeite circle. Many dealers have invested in Myanmar's mines openly or secretly. The supply and quality of jadeite raw stones are quite stable.

There are also public auctions in China, selling both raw and finished materials. The bidding process for jadeite raw stones is a comprehensive test of experience, calculation, valuation, and luck. It is very interesting to talk about it in detail. The editor will mention it in the section "Does Jadeite Have a Culture (Part 3)" - The Price Culture of Jadeite.
