"The more colors the jade has, the better!" "Is that why you sold it for 16.8 million?"

Jadeite is one of the most popular jade varieties today. The reason why it has risen at an extremely fast speed in a few hundred years is that, on the one hand, it is inseparable from the accumulation of thousands of years of jade culture. On the other hand, its rich and bright colors are also an extremely important and indispensable factor.

But in recent years, some people have taken advantage of people's pursuit of jade color.

In the jade market, more and more so-called old jades from the Ming and Qing dynasties are emerging. They have a colorful appearance and are accompanied by various mysterious and bizarre inheritance stories, so they are also called "rainbow jade".

A few months ago, a batch of rainbow jadeite even made a high-profile appearance at a large-scale exhibition, and was marked with an extremely high price of 16.8 million Hong Kong dollars!

There is no doubt that these rainbow jadeites are all fake. Why?

1. Fake origin

Perhaps out of guilty conscience, most of these rainbow jadeites have a high-profile origin , such as being the ultimate collection of the Qing Dynasty harem, or being priceless cultural relics lost among the people.

Some people also make a fuss about the meaning, calling it "four colors mean four seasons like spring, eight colors mean the Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea" , which sounds like a good meaning.

An eight-color rainbow jade bracelet named "Eight Stars Reporting Good News" appeared on the Internet before. It was rumored that this bracelet could save 30 years of hard work , but anyone with a discerning eye can tell that it is 100% fake.

Those who are knowledgeable will scoff at such false origins, while those who are not will believe them without a doubt.

2. Fake materials

The true identity of these rainbow jades is actually inferior goods that have been injected with glue and dyed, which are commonly known as B+C goods.

As for what the merchants say, that the products are too old or the stains are too severe to pass the inspection and therefore they cannot provide professional certificates, this is completely a lie. The reason why they cannot issue certificates is simply because they are B+C goods!

Genuine jadeite from the Ming and Qing dynasties, as long as it is natural, can be issued with professional certificates.

3. Fake prices

The price of rainbow jade is also very fake, it can be said to be ridiculously exaggerated, some are worth tens of millions, and some are only a few hundred yuan...

△ "Old Jade" worth tens of millions

△Rainbow jade ranging from hundreds to thousands

During the Ming and Qing dynasties, due to the underdeveloped mining technology, the output of jade was extremely scarce. How could there be such a large number of "Qing Dynasty's finest old mine rainbow jade" circulating among the people? Why is the price difference so big?

Causes of Jadeite Color

Jade is an aggregate of sodium aluminum pyroxene minerals and is colorless in itself. It is the addition of many pigment ions during and after the formation of jade that creates rich colors.

Jade is produced at the junction of plates. There are many ultrabasic materials and chromite in the area where it was formed. There are also many host rocks such as chlorite schist, hornblende schist, and chromite in its surrounding environment. Various color-causing ions in these host rocks are added to jade during its formation, causing jade to form shades of green, blue-green, blue, and purple.

After jade is formed, its appearance changes greatly under the influence of external forces (landslides, earthquakes, wind, sun, and water erosion). The divalent iron in itself and its surroundings gradually penetrates into the surface of the jade raw material and changes, from divalent iron to reddish, orange-red, and yellow trivalent iron.

In this way, the jadeite becomes colorful, with a brown to red outer skin and green or purple or several colors appearing simultaneously inside . In other words, colorful jade with multiple colors like a rainbow does exist.

However, high-end jadeite with bright and rich colors is after all rare , so from the discovery of jadeite to the present, the price of good multi-colored jadeite has never dropped, but has increased year by year at a certain rate.

Rainbow Jade vs. Natural Multi-Colored Jade

So, natural multi-colored jade does exist, but it is very rare. If you compare the so-called rainbow jadeite with the real multi-colored jadeite, you can clearly see the difference.

The so-called rainbow jade is overly bright in color, loose in texture, and extremely transparent, and it is obvious that it has been processed.

On the contrary, although natural multi-colored jade appears to be relatively plain , it has a fine texture and natural skin color, and has not been artificially processed.
