The identification standards of the Jade ABC Institute are revealed. 4 methods to select jade and learn to accurately estimate its value

Jade is divided into three categories, namely, A, B, and C grades. When buying jadeite on the market, experts will judge it based on the quality of the jadeite, or when purchasing in a jewelry store, there will be relevant certificates. Grade A is the best, grade B is medium, and grade C is the worst.

Grade A (Allowing): Grade A refers to naturally generated jade. The main factor to distinguish between Grade A and Grade B jade is whether only physical methods are used for processing. Grade A jade refers to jade that has been carved, ground, and polished only with physical methods, while Grade B jade refers to jade that has been processed with any chemical or irradiation methods to improve its internal structure.

However, in recent years, a new type of A-grade goods has emerged, but they are actually B-grade goods. This new type of A-grade jade is made by adding color to the part with colored roots.

However, the new type of A-grade jade has no fluorescent reaction and its specific gravity will not change. Some appraisal agencies’ certificates also say “A-grade jadeite certificate”. This kind of jade appears in jewelry markets and various specialty stores. Everyone should open their eyes and see it carefully to distinguish the jade.

B-grade (Bleached and Polymer impregnated Jadeite): Jadeite that has been artificially treated, such as acid bleaching, glue injection and other chemical methods, and irradiation to improve the internal structure of jadeite

C goods (Coating jadeite): Jadeite that has been dyed and artificially colored, is also called dyed jadeite. The cheapest jade on the market are all of this type. Ordinary people cannot tell the difference between C-grade jade and A-grade jade and are deceived.

There is a saying in the jade market: "one kind, two colors, and three craftsmanship; bracelets are judged by their kind and pendants are judged by their color." We judge an jade from many aspects. In addition to the common kind, water, color and ground, size, weight, evenness, clarity, cracks and aesthetics are also considered. At the same time, the carving craftsmanship is also one of the factors that determine the price of jade.

1. Look at the water

When judging jadeite, the saying “good quality can hide three flaws” highlights the importance of jadeite’s quality, which is the same principle as “whiteness can hide three flaws”.

Many novice players tend to confuse the quality of jade and water. Some people regard this and water as the same criterion, while others think that they are two completely different things and cannot be generalized.

People in the industry judge jadeite as "inseparable in terms of "quality and water" . In layman's terms, the quality refers to the variety of jadeite, and the water refers to all aspects of the specific quality of jadeite. The two are different, but also related.

Judging the quality is relatively simple. Good qualities are ranked from high to low: old pit glass quality, water quality, ice quality, ice glutinous quality, glutinous quality, and other qualities. The quality of other qualities depends on the color.

Water, the commonly used jargon is water head, which means transparency, refers to the ability of jade to transmit visible light. Good jade will be said to have full water content. The water content of jade is used to determine the price of the same jade. Ten percent water content is top-grade jade, while no water content is completely opaque, also known as short water content or poor water content.

2. Color identification

Jade comes in many colors, and the best jade is green. The colors from high to low are: green (imperial green, positive green, apple green), red, yellow, and purple.

3. Look at the craftsmanship

"Materials and craftsmanship are half and half" means that in a good work of art, the material texture of jade and the processing each account for half. Good craftsmanship combined with good jade can produce higher value. If the jade carving and processing are not up to standard, it would be a waste of resources. Even the price of Imperial Green will drop.

4. other

For jadeite of the same size and thickness, of course the larger and thicker ones will be more expensive; uniformity refers to the even distribution of water and color, with no water or color difference being the best; clarity refers to the absence of blemishes and other colors for the best; no cracks are best; and the aesthetic sense is mainly based on the overall feeling of the jadeite object, as everyone has different aesthetic tastes.
