How to Carve a Lotus Brush Washer

Jade carving is a complex craft that tests the creativity of the designer and the carving skills of the sculptor.

Its carving is roughly divided into five steps: one is to find the original stone, dig out the dirt and remove the knots, two is the design, three is to push the layers, four is the hollowing, five is the fine work, and six is ​​the polishing.

First, let’s talk about finding the original stone and removing the dirt and streaks. Most of the jade raw stones are dirty or of poor quality. If they are not dug out, it will have a great impact on the beauty of the handicraft and its value will be greatly reduced. Another advantage of digging out the dirt is that the original stones can be arranged in different heights and in an orderly manner. Furthermore, the shape of the original stones can be broken to make them look better.

Second design. The raw stone of Du Yu comes in two colors: black and white. In order to create a beautiful and clever carving, the black one can be shaped like a round basin, while the white one can be carved into lotus flowers, lotus leaves, and water plants. The idea has been put forward. Use a red pen to design the large-scale one, and then use a brush to draw the pattern in detail. As shown in the picture above, the structure of the brush makes it easier to carve and the pattern will not fall off when water is poured, and it is clearer.

Three push levels. First use a large cutting blade to remove the outer periphery without damaging the wire. Cut a circle on the outside of the brush washer and dig a hole inside to make it into a fish tank shape. Cut the lotus flowers and lotus leaves into three dimensions and separate the layers. Second, change the small cutting blade to make the brush round, thin the inside and polish it. Then make a depression in the middle of the lotus leaf and cut the edges along the ink line. The lotus petals are spread out in an orderly manner.

After the four layers are pushed open and polished, the pattern is carefully drawn with a brush, and then the nails are replaced for the lotus petals, the lotus is carved out, and then the grass leaves and lotus stems are carved out. Note that when using tool nails, you should go from large to small sizes. The middle of the lotus braid should be concave, the middle of the flower should have a carved flower head and core, and the lotus leaves should be curled and twisted. The grass leaves have layers and are curved rather than straight. The lotus stem should be bent.

Fifth, dig out the gaps evenly, and the models should be from large to small in sequence, without damaging the lines. After doing this, the entire craft has been completed on a large scale, with clear layers, and it can be seen that it is a brush washer lotus and lotus leaf craft. Then use the hollowing out crafts, the layers of the hollowing out crafts are clearer and the carved body is more three-dimensional. The craftsmanship is more exquisite.

Sixth, do the fine work, use jujube to soften the lotus petals and leaves to make the petals softer, and then soften the grass leaves to make them have clear layers and twists. Use a small trumpet head to make lotus petals, lotus leaves, grass leaves, lotus stems, etc. Use a small concave tray to make the middle handle between the lotus pod and the lotus leaf.

Polish it seven times, use an old nail to level the brush and wash it, use an old grinding head to grind the lotus stem, use old jujube bark to grind the lotus flowers and lotus leaves, and polish it to three-quarters of the image. Then use a small hook to hook the veins of the lotus leaves and the veins in the middle of the water plants.
