Why is water essential for the maintenance of jade pendants? How important is water to jade?

There are many categories of jade products. According to their usage, they can be divided into pendants, ornaments, etc. Among them, jade pendants are more common because they are easy to wear, and are also the most purchased type. However, if you want jade to have the function of "nourishing people", you must first maintain the jade. Some people put the jade aside when they are not wearing it. When they remember to wear it again, they find that the jade has lost its luster and regret it.

Jade must be soaked in water after being worn for a while. Jade shops often place a glass of water in the store. This is because regularly replenishing jade with water is not only very helpful for the maintenance of jade, but also can improve the quality of jade to a certain extent. If jade is kept close to a heat source for a long time, the volume of its internal molecules will increase after being burned, causing the jade quality to change. It will cause the jade to lose its warm moisture, causing its seed quality to become dry and its color to become lighter. Therefore, jade should not be kept in high temperature and humid conditions for a long time.

Why do we need to soak jade in water? Water is a very good buffer layer, which can make the inside of jade more flexible. The internal structure of the bean-type and glutinous-type jade is relatively loose, and water molecules can easily enter them, replenishing them with moisture, making the jade look lustrous and charming. When soaking jade in water, not just any water will do. You must use purified water, not tap water. The chlorine in tap water will corrode the surface of jade. Over time, a layer of chemical substances will be produced on the surface of jade, which will deteriorate the quality of the jade and change its color and transparency.

Jade should not be soaked in water for too long, 1-2 hours is appropriate, and then it can be wiped clean with a dry thin cloth. You can soak it in water every 3-4 months. It is best to use pure water to soak jade, and immerse the jade completely in water. If the jade is stored in a separate cabinet, it is best to put a cup of water next to the jade. The water vapor evaporated from the cup can effectively maintain the moisture of the jade. Always remember that everything has its limits. Do not soak jade in water for a long time. 1-2 hours is enough.

If stains appear on the surface of the jadeite due to long-term wearing, wash it with clean water and then gently brush the jadeite with a horsetail brush. Remember, it is best to take off the jade when taking a bath or exercising. Because shower gel or sweat stains contain acidic and alkaline corrosive chemicals, it is easy to cause the gloss to decrease if they are exposed to such conditions for a long time. Generally, jade can be nourished and maintained with a small amount of white tea oil after cleaning. It can not only lock the moisture of jade and prevent it from flowing out, but also enhance the gloss and smoothness of jade.
