How to cut jadeite rough stone

For a jadeite that has not yet been opened, no one can tell what is inside except for its shape, weight and appearance. Cutting stones is called "stone cutting" or "stone cutting" in the industry. Only through stone cutting can jade be free from roughness and show its beauty. However, if you are not careful during the cutting process, it is very likely that a piece of jade will be turned into waste stone. So, what are the tips for cutting jadeite raw stone?

Jade cutting may have different methods in different regions, but generally speaking, the following steps are involved:

In-depth analysis of raw materials - Before material inspection and production and processing, it is necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of the specific conditions of the raw materials, that is, to grasp the actual conditions of the production and processing objects. Just like seeing a doctor in a hospital, only based on in-depth analysis can we provide the right treatment based on the circumstances and the situation.
Cutting the stone into slices refers to the first step of cutting the stone. How you cut the stone is the key. If the cut is not done well, it is entirely possible that 1 million will turn into 100,000! After careful observation and identification, the cutting position should be selected. If there is a crack, the first cut should be mainly along the grain.

For very large stones:
1. The most primitive method: burning - to blow it into small pieces. Disadvantages: it is difficult to control the explosion point and the damage is relatively serious. Later it was improved to burning at a certain location.
2. Metal wire drawing (wire saw): use thin iron wire and diamond sand as abrasive, add water to cool it, and push it back and forth to loosen the jade. Advantages: No damage to quality, no waste of raw materials. Disadvantages: Slow.
3. Foot-operated material disassembler: It has been used since the Qing Dynasty and has now been replaced by electric ones. But it is also used for high-quality jade or in mountainous areas without electricity. A round iron-thallium-copper disk, a rotating shaft, a belt or tape, push the rotating shaft with your foot, continuously add diamond sand, and then slowly cut the jade. After the first cut, the color, distribution of cracks and water head of the jadeite stone will be clearer, and preparation for cutting into slices can begin.

The basic principles of cutting:
(1) Be extremely cautious with pigments and follow the basic principle of not destroying the green color. If the material is cut well, used well, and shipped well, a large profit can be obtained, so experience is very important for the cutting master.
(2) Start cutting from the worst position. Before gaining experience, it won't hurt much to start from the worst position.
(3) Make the finished product as large as possible. The larger the finished product, the rarer it is and the higher its value. If you can make bracelets, make them first and use the rest to make small accessories. Those with many cracks can only be made into decorative pieces or carvings.
(4) The basic principle of dual use is that flower pieces and plain bodies go hand in hand. If possible, make them plain. Don’t be too rigid.
