Jade identification skills, 4 tricks to easily identify the authenticity of jade

Among many jewels and jades, jadeite has become the darling of the market because of its price advantage and appreciation potential. Where there is demand, there is counterfeiting. Jadeite has become a popular jewel, and the counterfeiting techniques and methods are even more dazzling. Many counterfeit jadeites are so realistic that many people find it difficult to determine whether they are real or fake. So what are some easy-to-operate techniques for jadeite identification?

1. Identify the authenticity of jadeite from its color

① Natural jadeite: The difference in color grade of jadeite is greatly reflected in its value. When identifying and evaluating jadeite, one must distinguish its color, especially green jadeite, which is valuable. When identifying green jadeite, one must see whether the color of the jadeite is natural.

② Fake jade: Be careful with jade that is too bright or floats on the surface. The boundaries between the colored and colorless parts of many dyed jades are unclear, and there is a gradual transition. The colored parts will fade or disappear when exposed to transmitted light, which is called "death in light."

In addition, if dyed jade is left for too long, the green color will become lighter and yellower.

2. To identify jadeite, we need to know its transparency

① Natural jade: The transparency of natural jade is uneven. The green part has a fine texture and relatively less cotton wool, which makes it appear more transparent. The white part has a relatively coarse texture and more cotton wool, which makes it less transparent. The boundary between the transparent and opaque parts is relatively clear, and the transparent part appears more transparent and clear.

② Fake jade: Jade that has been injected with glue, dyed, or treated with glue and dye (B goods, C goods, B+C goods) is made from low-grade jade with a coarser texture. The transparency of the jade is consistent everywhere, and the transparency of the green part is even lower than that of the white part. The overall feeling is hazy white fog and it is turbid and unclear.

3. Identify Jadeite by Looking at Jadeite Fluorescence

① Natural jadeite: The surface of transparent jadeite, especially on the edges of full curved contours, often emits a white light. This is because the transparent jadeite has a full curved surface, just like the focusing effect of a lens, coupled with the diffuse reflection of fine cotton wool inside, the white light emitted from the inside of the jadeite is commonly known as "fluorescein". "Fluorescence" generally appears in jadeite with better transparency and fullness. The "fluorescence" characteristics of natural jadeite and processed jadeite are different. The "fluorescence" of transparent A-grade jadeite is characterized by white with a yellowish tint.

② Fake jade: B-grade, B+C or jadeite produces a "fluorescence" that is white with a bluish or purple hue, especially at the edges.

4. Identify jadeite by looking at the cleanliness of the inside of the jadeite

①Natural jadeite:

Grade A jade may contain some impurities, such as black spots composed of iron and chromite, called "fly poop", and secondary "rust color" of yellow to yellowish brown caused by iron oxide (Figure 13). Therefore, jadeite with yellow "rust threads" is generally seen as natural unprocessed jadeite.

②Natural jadeite:

Because B-grade and B+C-grade jadeite are corroded by strong acid, the iron and other impurities on the surface will be soaked away, so the surface will be relatively clean, without impurities such as yellow rust and black spots.

The authenticity of jade can also be determined by judging its perfection, carving craftsmanship, feel, sound and other characteristics, but in our actual identification, these four methods are more practical. If you don’t know much about jade, you must remember to get a jade identification certificate issued by a professional organization as the final guarantee for identifying jade.
