Identification of Jadeite by Weight:

Hardness identification of jadeite:

Compared with other jades, jadeite has a very high hardness. The hardness of jade is 6.5-7, which is slightly higher than that of glass, so jade can leave scratches on glass, but glass cannot leave scratches on jade.

Identify jadeite by knocking sound:

An experienced person will hang the jade in the air and gently tap it, which will produce a clear and pleasant "steel" sound. If it is jade that has been artificially processed, it will produce a low, dull sound. This method is best suited for jade bracelets, but is not very effective for small solid jade pendants.

Identification of Jadeite by Its Properties:

Some jade experts believe that the important characteristic that distinguishes natural jade from other jades (including B-grade jade) is that natural jade has "jade nature" (fly wings), which means that the surface of jade appears similar to the wings of insects such as flies, with bright white reflections under light. Identify jadeite by observing the cut surface:

When observing jadeite with a high-power magnifying glass, the state of real jadeite is relatively natural. It does not require too much artificial processing and cutting, so the patterns on the cut surface of real jadeite will be relatively irregular. Moreover, the internal composition of real jadeite is relatively delicate, making people feel particularly comfortable. But if it is fake jade, its cut surface will be very clean, neat, smooth and bright. Because fake jade requires artificial processing, it will leave a lot of artificial traces.

Identification of Jadeite by Fire:

This jade identification method is only used to distinguish between natural jade (A grade) and B grade jade. The component of natural jade is sodium aluminum silicate crystal, which has a high melting point and will only melt when calcined to above 900 degrees. B-grade jadeite needs to be treated with acid to remove its impurities. After the acid treatment, the structure will become loose and require glue injection. The main component of the glue is a resin composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. When calcined to 350 degrees, carbonization will occur and a brown-yellow color will appear. When calcined to 400 degrees, it will turn black. The fire burning method is a destructive identification method, and this extreme method is generally not used to identify jadeite.
