It turns out there are so many things to pay attention to when choosing a jade pendant!

Guanyin and Buddha are the most common options when we choose jade pendants, occupying most of the pendant world.

They are all symbols of Buddhism, giving people a sense of solemnity and compassion. It can eliminate the wearer's irritability and make the wearer calm. In this way, good luck will follow.

It is not difficult to choose jade Guanyin and Buddha. Apart from the most basic quality, water color, you only need to pay attention to 4 details! But don't underestimate them. If you don't choose them well, the consequences may be disastrous.

Three important considerations for the shape of jadeite Guanyin and Buddha! These details can greatly affect the overall effect and collection value of the jade pendant.

1 First, look at the face

Both Buddha and Guanyin are figure sculptures, so the requirements for the face are naturally higher! There is a jargon in the jade carving industry, called "opening the face". If the face is not carved well, the price of the pendant will be at least half of it. After all, appearance is justice.

Whether it is Buddha or Guanyin, they all have kind eyes, dignified and kind images, so their facial lines should be round and plump, the facial features should be harmonious in proportion, and the expressions should be natural (smiling), giving people a comfortable and calm feeling.

In addition, there is one taboo that must not be violated when it comes to jade figure carvings - the face cannot have cracks or discolorations! If you have these on your face, it is not only a matter of appearance, but also a great disrespect to the Buddha.

Therefore, it is best to choose pure-colored jade carvings for Guanyin and Buddha. Those containing floating flowers, gold threads, and snowflakes are not suitable. If you really like this kind of material, at least make sure the character's face is clean.

2. Next, look at the eyes

Eyes are the windows to the human soul. They are also very important for jade figures and can be regarded as the finishing touch!

The eyes of Buddha and Guanyin come in many different forms, some with eyes open and some with eyes closed, but no matter which type, they are required to be carved with fine detail and be evenly sized.

At present, the jade Guanyin and Buddha on the market basically have their eyes half-closed, which is the legendary “two-thirds open and eight-thirds closed”.

So why is it so, my fellow jade lovers, do you know? There are actually four explanations:

1. Representing the Bodhisattva’s entry into the state of “dhyana”

Buddhist meditation emphasizes the static state of "not being attached to external appearances, and not being moved by internal emotions". Half-opening the eyes also helps practitioners avoid falling asleep. Therefore, when making statues, sculptors would also use this image to represent that Bodhisattvas and Buddhas have entered the state of "Zen".

2. It means that cultivation is up to oneself.

The Bodhisattva and Buddha have half-closed eyes, which means "always observe your own faults, and do not stare at other people's faults." It means don't think about the mistakes made by others, as the practice of Taoism is about improving yourself.

3. A symbol of compassion

Half-open eyes symbolize "compassion", representing the unwillingness to abandon the six realms of rebirth. It is pity for all living beings and the inability to bear to see the suffering of all living beings with fully open eyes.

4. Don’t use your eyes, look at the world with your heart

There is also a saying that the world we see with our naked eyes is wrong and upside down, and that the Buddha, with his eyes slightly closed, is also teaching us to look at the world with our hearts, so that we can achieve the state of "Zen".

3. The overall proportion should be balanced

The proportion of jade Guanyin and Buddha is an important factor affecting aesthetics. If the proportions are not good, it will give people a feeling of disharmony or even ridiculousness, which is also disrespectful to the Buddha himself.

Jade is a very spiritual jade stone, and it requires a sense of liking for the eyes. If you fall in love at first sight when you see a jade product, it means you have a connection with it. But I would also like to remind all jade lovers to be careful when purchasing!
