Today I will share with you the process of picking up a piece of fine jadeite:

This is an old ice-type colorless jadeite. The material is old and moist, with a clean texture without flaws. Such jade material is most suitable for figure themes - old jadeite with a clean texture has a very high chance of glossing and having a gum texture during polishing; a good gum texture can make the Guanyin figure more charming and flavorful. So the jade carver finalized the design of Manjushri Bodhisattva.

The carving technique for high-quality jadeite is usually shallow relief, which not only saves precious jade materials but also makes the pattern lines clear.

After the rough shape is determined, a second draft will usually be drawn on the shape to facilitate the jade carver to make fine adjustments. The main purpose of fine-tuning is to carve the lines of the picture smoothly and finely, polish the arc surface of the relief smoothly, highlight the three-dimensional sense of the pattern, and avoid the feeling of "line carving".

Generally, when jade carvers carve figures, they will first refine all parts of the plaque except the facial pattern, and leave the face carving as the last step. Especially when carving high-end jade materials, the jade carver will only start to carve the face when he has a feeling for carving. If he doesn't have a feeling for carving, the jade carver would rather put the work aside and not carve it first.

When the jade carving master completes the facial pattern, the carving part of the entire work is completed. The picture above is the backlit picture after polishing. The finished product is so charming and beautiful!
