In this era when even jade can be easily faked, can't a mere appraisal certificate be faked? Here I will tell you how to check jade appraisal certificates and how to distinguish the authenticity of jade appraisal certificates, so that consumers will not be deceived when buying jade, and spend a lot of money to buy fake and inferior products. 1. How to check jade identification certificate 1. Website query In the age of Internet digitalization, jade identification agencies have also kept pace with the times. Most of the formal and legal jade identification agencies have opened their own websites, using the Internet to provide consumers with jade identification certificate inquiries of their agencies, so that consumers can easily distinguish the authenticity of jade identification certificates. Generally speaking, the query URL will be marked in a prominent position on the jade identification certificate. Consumers only need to log in to the URL and enter the relevant content according to the prompts on the web page, and they can query the relevant data of this jade identification certificate (as shown in the figure below). 2. Scan the QR code to query As the smartphone user base expands, more and more users are using WeChat, and “scan” has become a frequently used term. The so-called “scan” means scanning the QR code. Since the information capacity of QR codes is very large and their anti-counterfeiting ability is very strong, it is basically impossible to forge them. Therefore, QR code anti-counterfeiting is also used in the anti-counterfeiting of jade identification certificates. Consumers can view all the information on the jade identification certificate by scanning the QR code on the jade identification certificate with their mobile phones, and then compare it with the physical jade identification certificate in their hands to verify the authenticity of the jade identification certificate. However, not all jade identification institutions provide QR code query method. Therefore, the method of querying jade identification certificates by scanning QR codes is only applicable to jade identification certificates issued by some identification institutions that provide QR code query method. 3. Telephone enquiry Telephone inquiry is the most widely used method for jade identification certificate inquiries. Consumers only need to call the landline number on the jade identification certificate and someone will be there to answer your questions related to the jade identification certificate. 4. SMS query Some appraisal agencies also provide SMS inquiry methods. Consumers only need to follow the instructions on the jade appraisal certificate, edit the certificate number into a text message and send it to the designated number. The relevant information of this jade appraisal certificate will be sent back to the consumer's mobile phone via SMS for the consumer to query and compare. 2. How to identify the authenticity of jade identification certificates To distinguish the authenticity of a jade identification certificate, we naturally have to rely on our eyes. The "look" here does not mean looking randomly, but looking with a purpose. So, if we want to identify the authenticity of a jade identification certificate, how should we "look" at it? What should we look at? Don't worry, the editor is here to answer you. First of all, everyone knows that jade can be divided into A-grade, B-grade, C-grade and D-grade. Among them, A-grade, B-grade and C-grade are all real jade, while D-grade is purely jade made of other materials, which is what we often call fakes. The markings on the certificates for jadeite of different grades are also different. For example, only natural A-grade jadeite will have the word "jade" marked as the identification result on the jadeite identification certificate, while B-grade jadeite will be marked with "jade (B-grade)", "jade (processed)", "jade (glue injection)" or "jade (optimized)" in the identification result item on the jadeite identification certificate, and C-grade jadeite will be marked with "jade (dyed)" in the identification result item on the jadeite identification certificate. As for D-grade jadeite, the word "jade" will not appear in this item. If it is a substitute, the name of the substitute will be indicated, such as "dyed quartzite", "artificial glass", "Xiuyan jade", etc. Secondly, we need to know which items are necessary on the general jade identification certificate. Although there may be some differences in some items on the jade identification certificates issued by different appraisal institutions, there are some items that are required for jade identification certificates, such as jade pictures, basic physical, chemical, and optical characteristics of jade (quality, refractive index, absorption spectrum, fluorescence, color filter inspection, etc.), and the inspector's signature, stamp, and anti-counterfeiting mark. Among these, the first thing we need to look at is the picture. Although some jades come from the same raw material and look very similar in appearance, there are absolutely no two jades that are exactly the same in the world. Therefore, we must carefully compare the actual object with the picture on the jade identification certificate to see if they are the same jade. If the picture on the jade identification certificate does not match the actual object, then there is naturally no need to read the subsequent content. After looking at the picture and confirming that the picture on the jade identification certificate is the same as the actual jade in our hands, what we need to do next is to weigh the jade to see if the weight we weigh is consistent with that on the jade identification certificate. Usually the quality indicated on a jade appraisal certificate will be accurate to at least two decimal places. The quality of the actual jade should not be much different from the data on the certificate (an error of 0.01-0.05 grams is normal). When the pictures, data, etc. on the jade identification certificate are exactly the same as the actual object, we must also pay attention to the authenticity of some background content appearing on the jade identification certificate. Since this part of the content is very professional, ordinary people will not understand its meaning at all unless they specifically look it up. Therefore, it is an overlooked blind spot in the eyes of unscrupulous merchants who forge jade identification certificates. However, it is often easy to identify the authenticity of the jade identification certificate from these blind spots that are easily overlooked by many people. Having said so much, let’s take a look at an example to see how to identify the authenticity of a jade identification certificate. The picture below shows a fake jade identification certificate encountered by a consumer: There are three flaws in the fake jade identification certificate above: 1. The introduction of the jade identification certificate mentions that it has passed the metrological certification and quality review and approval. In this case, only the "CMA" metrological certification and the "CAL" quality review and approval marks will appear on the certificate. However, the certification marks that appear on this jade identification certificate are "CMA" (Metrology Certification) and "CNAS" (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment Laboratory Accreditation). This means that there are serious errors in the certification mark on the certificate and the background introduction of the testing station. For a formal jade appraisal agency, it is absolutely impossible for such serious and unbelievable errors to occur. It is understood that the jewelry and jadeite testing and inspection institutions that have the three marks of CMA, CAL and CNAL currently include the National Jewelry and Jadeite Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, Wuhan Jewelry and Jadeite Testing Center of China University of Geosciences, Jewelry and Jadeite Testing Center of Shanghai Central Laboratory of Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, Yunnan Jewelry and Jadeite Accessories Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute and other units. 2. The laboratory number query under the CNAS mark in the jade identification certificate shows: Guangdong Jewelry, Jade and Precious Metals Testing Center (see the picture below). Every standardized jade appraisal agency will be issued a certification certificate when it passes the laboratory accreditation of the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. The certificate will contain the full name and certification certificate number of the appraisal agency, and this information can be found on the official website of the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment. So according to the query results, the number of this CNAS mark does not match the appraisal agency written on this appraisal certificate, which is what we usually call a counterfeit. 3. The ringtone voice prompt of the supervision telephone number indicated on the jade appraisal certificate is that this number is the Ruili Jewelry Inspection Station of Dehong State Quality and Technical Supervision. Because the ringtone voice prompts of domestic landline telephones currently involve the names of units or companies, they need to be processed with a business license or unit certificate. Therefore, when you call the landline number written on the certificate, and the ringtone voice prompt of another unit appears, it can only mean that the telephone number on this jade identification certificate is applied to the telephone number of another unit. Through the above introduction and examples, I believe that everyone has more or less learned some methods to distinguish the authenticity of jade identification certificates. Here, we would like to remind consumers to pay attention to the following data that often appear in jade identification certificates and are easy to cause misunderstandings: 1. When jade is strung with a rope or inlaid with metal during identification, the "density" will not be written as 3.33g/cm3; 2. Some inspection items that are not tested or evaluated will be indicated by "*****" (as shown in the figure below). However, some businesses believe that this represents five-star quality, which is a wrong view. In addition, it is worth noting that consumers should note that the jade identification certificates presented to consumers by many merchants are not jade identification certificates issued by national authoritative identification agencies, and the authority and accuracy of such jade identification certificates may be compromised. According to Document No. 001 of 2004 of the China Gem Association, the results of nationwide random inspections showed that at least 19 appraisal agencies had issued jade appraisal certificates with problems such as deliberately inflating the grade of diamonds and identifying quartzite as jade. Some of these appraisal agencies even had a large number of unqualified tests. These problems are not all due to the limitations of testing levels, but more to collusion with businesses for profit and artificial concealment.
