How to carve jadeite with average quality but rich colors? You will learn after watching it

Although jadeite with excellent water quality and outstanding color is very attractive to people, its price is out of reach. Within our means, some people will choose jade with good quality but no color; some people will choose jade with outstanding color but average quality.

When carving jadeite with good water quality, jade carving masters prefer to use less work or shallow carving to retain most of the smooth surface of the material and better reflect the natural glass luster of jadeite.

For jadeite with outstanding color but average water quality, the sculptor will use medium and high relief and carve complex patterns on the jadeite to cover up the inherent lack of water quality of the jadeite.

Like this double-color Damakan jade, its colors are very rich, with strong yellow and green colors, but its water quality is not good, it is a bit tender, the water head is short, and the base is not very clean.

For double-color jadeite of this quality, carving masters usually use it to carve landscapes or dragon themes. They can separate the green and yellow colors very well and make clever carvings with beautiful colors. But the owner wanted to use it to carve a Buddhist-themed pendant, so the theme shown above was created.

This is a composition extended from the landscape theme, using a full pattern layout to cover up the inherent lack of water quality of the jadeite, and using medium relief to clearly separate the green and yellow colors. Through the combination of these complex and numerous patterns, the unclean base of the jade is difficult to see with the naked eye.

Jadeite with insufficient water quality has a less tight structure, so the carving cannot be too fine, otherwise it will easily fall off in small pieces or break into pieces during polishing.

When polishing, the jade carving master chose a semi-matte polishing technique. The green parts with good water quality and mainly smooth surface are polished using a bright polishing process to highlight the rich green color; the yellow parts with average water quality and complex carvings are polished using a local bright polishing process to create a deeper sense of layering in order to better cover up the flaws of poor water quality.

Finally, use a top bead made of the same material and match it with a rope, and an exquisite jade double-color pendant is completed.

This is a typical carving idea for jadeite with watery texture and rich colors. What do you think?
