1. Observation and identification method Traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes “looking, smelling, asking and feeling”, and the same applies to identifying jadeite. First, you need to understand the basic appearance of jadeite and be able to “look”. Pay attention to the surface features and use small tools such as a magnifying glass or flashlight when necessary. If jadeite has been filled, due to the large difference in hardness between the filler and the jadeite, obvious grooves can be seen at the original cracks of the jadeite. The filler is obviously sunken downward, lower than the two sides, forming criss-crossing grooves. In some cases where the filling is rough, even cementing materials and residual bubbles may be seen. Nowadays, counterfeiting technology is becoming more and more advanced. Some sophisticated bleaching and filling treatments can even keep the surface of jade smooth, making it more difficult to observe. You need to be more careful and observe and measure from multiple angles. 2. Color identification method The quality of jade depends on its "type, water and color", so these three aspects have become the hardest hit areas for counterfeiting. In the "looking" stage, in addition to observing the filling and acid etching marks yourself, you should also pay attention to the color. Acid etching is a method of counterfeiting B-grade jadeite. However, there is also a method of counterfeiting by first etching with acid and then dyeing, which produces "B+C goods". Acid etching can severely damage the jade structure, while the internal structure changes the optical properties. The direct result is that the color distribution of jadeite has no sense of hierarchy. After being soaked in acidic solution, the base of jade becomes paler and the green color becomes more floating, which looks unnatural. 3. Gloss identification method Similarly, the most obvious effect of acid etching is the impact on the jade's luster, which is "water". After strong acid and alkali soaking treatment, the jade structure becomes loose, and the second step is the filling mentioned above. The fillers used are usually resins and plastics. Although they are transparent, their gloss is different. The resin luster is waxy, while the jade luster is clear and direct, with a neat glass luster. 4. Weight identification method Don't underestimate the weighing process, as it requires basic skills. You have to know the weight of the jade well before you can use this method properly. This requires frequent learning and practice to accumulate experience. Weighing is mainly used to identify counterfeits, whether it is passing off inferior goods as good ones, or using other jades to impersonate jadeite, those materials are lighter than jadeite. The density of natural jade is 3.33. The density determines that when you hold the jade in your hand, you will feel a noticeable pressure. Fake jade does not have that density and feels light in the hand. This method is particularly suitable for identifying medium-sized jadeite. 5. Sound Identification For sound identification, the main method used is tapping. Just like weighing the weight, it requires a certain amount of experience. First of all, you have to know that when real jade is knocked, it makes a crisp and pleasant sound, and it sounds crisp and smart. The structure of processed jade has been destroyed, and the mineral particles are filled with gum, so the sound of knocking is of course dull and unpleasant. This method is very suitable for identifying the authenticity of jade bracelets. 6. Incision Identification Method For some jadeite with cuts, you can use a high-power magnifying glass to observe the cut. The cut surface of genuine jade usually shows very obvious irregular cracks, and the delicate structure inside the jade can be seen. The satin surface of old jade and ice jade is uneven, which shows the fine structure of the jade. It is impossible to fake the internal structure of fake jade. Under a high-power magnifying glass, the cut of fake jade is still bright and shiny, which is an obvious sign of artificial processing. 7. Fluorescence identification method The presence of fluorescence can be used to identify B-grade jadeite. Most early B-grade jadeite has fluorescence, and the fluorescence distribution can be seen under ultraviolet light. There are two types of fluorescence: Shortwave: weaker, yellow-green or blue-green; Long wave: medium to strong, yellow-green or bluish-white. However, the fluorescence intensity of jadeite processed by this method is very weak, or even non-existent, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to identify. And it’s not only B-grade products that have fluorescence, A-grade products also have it, and that’s what I’m going to talk about below. 8. Identification of phosphor When it comes to fluorescence, we have to mention the method of counterfeiting jade by washing the bottom with fluorescent powder. This method is relatively rare nowadays, but it still exists. Jadeite that needs to be washed with fluorescent powder usually has a certain kind of water, and after washing, the water will be better. Moreover, this method will not damage the structure of jade, will not affect its brittleness and color roots, it simply increases the water head. But in the final analysis, fake is fake. Jadeite washed with fluorescent powder will turn yellow and change color after about 3 months of wearing. When identifying, you should focus on observing the jadeite's texture and color roots, and whether the glossiness is normal! It should be noted that some jadeite with green properties and color roots may not necessarily be A-grade jadeite! The jade identification method introduced above can only be regarded as a reference. It is a relatively basic identification method based on the essential characteristics of jade. fcgc66 fcpf18 |
