When illuminated by side light or transmitted light, Dushan jade can be seen as particles of equal size; while the particles of jadeite are uneven and intertwined with each other. In addition, since Dushan jade is mainly composed of feldspar minerals, some scaly reflections can be seen on the surface under surface reflective conditions. 3. Look at the gloss. The refractive index of Dushan jade varies greatly, but it is mainly in the range of 1.52-1.56, and the hardness is 6-6.5. The refractive index of jadeite is relatively high, at 1.66, and the hardness is also relatively large, 6.5-7. From the surface gloss, jadeite appears brighter than Dushan jade and has a glassy gloss, while Dushan jade has a glass-oily gloss, and it is relatively easy to have some scratches or friction marks on the surface.

4. Look at the color tone. Dushan jade is a multi-colored jade with many colors in banded form. Since it is mainly composed of feldspar minerals, it will show some flesh-red to brown, which is the characteristic tone of Dushan jade. Jadeite generally does not appear flesh-red. In addition, the green tone of Dushan jade is darker, while the green of jadeite can appear emerald green and is brighter. Dushan jade material has rich colors and a banded structure.

The biggest feature of Xiuyan jade is that its hardness is significantly lower than that of jadeite, but it will not be damaged at all. At the same time, Xiuyan jade has an obvious oily or waxy luster, while jadeite has a glassy or pearly luster, so it can be distinguished from jadeite by these two points. The one produced in New Zealand is called Bowen jade, and the one produced in Pennsylvania, USA is called William jade. Because there are many origins around the world and the quantity is large, and some of them are similar in color to jadeite, they are often used to imitate jadeite. Therefore, everyone should master the relevant knowledge of jadeite, Lantian jade and Xiuyan jade. Generally speaking, Lantian jade is a low-grade jade, with mid-grade jade occasionally appearing. Historically, jadeite has been a mid- to high-end jade, but in recent years, mid- to low-end and non-high-end jade has appeared in large numbers.
