What is jade? How to maintain jade to make it more watery?

There are two theories about the origin of the name of jadeite. One is that it comes from a bird called "jadeite" (that is, kingfisher, a common name for birds of the genus Emerald, family Alcedoaceae, order Aves). Because the feathers of this bird are bright red, tender green, and have a gem-like luster, its feathers were often used as decoration in ancient China. The "Diancui" in Peking Opera is this kind of ornament. The second is that it comes from the homonym of "Feicui". Because jadeite only flowed into China from Myanmar in the early Qing Dynasty. At that time, the jasper in Chinese Hetian jade was called "Cui". In order to distinguish the two, jadeite was called "Feicui", which later gradually evolved into "Jadeite".

Mineral composition of jadeite

Many people call jade "jadeite", but in fact jade is a fibrous aggregate composed of pyroxene minerals, mainly jadeite minerals, while jadeite is a dense block aggregate composed of very fine crystals closely interwoven. Strictly speaking, "jade" is a petrological concept, while "jadeite" is a mineralogical concept.

The main component of jadeite is jadeite, and it also contains amphibole, albite, diopside, magnetite, chlorite and sodium (meteoric) chrome pyroxene. Due to the different mineral components of jade, the specific gravity of jade also fluctuates.

The physical characteristics of jade are as follows:

1. Mohs hardness: 6.5-7.0;

2. Specific gravity: 3.30-3.36, the specific gravity of gem-grade jade is generally 3.34;

3. Refractive index: 1.666-1.680.

Common jade mineral classification:

1. Jadeite: Jadeite;

2. Soft jade: Hetian jade, including white jade, jasper, green jade, topaz, black jade, etc.;

3. Quartz jade: agate, Australian jade, aventurine, yellow dragon jade, tiger eye stone;

4. Opal: Opal;

5. Carbonate jade: marble jade, white marble, Afghan jade, Lantian jade, beeswax topaz;

6. Zoisite petrified anorthite: Dushan jade;

7. Natural glass: obsidian, glass meteorite;

We all know that what matters about jade is the quality and water head, especially the water head. If there is no water in jade, it will appear dry. Improper maintenance of jade will cause it to lose water.

So how can we better maintain the water head when wearing jade in our daily life? Let me tell you how to better maintain the water head of jadeite!

1. How to maintain the water content of jadeite to better?

1. Jade must be worn frequently. If you want the jade to have better moisture, you need to use the oil or sweat secreted by the human body to nourish it. In addition, the constant temperature of the human body is the best temperature for maintaining jade in the outside world.

Because jade has been separated from its original suitable environment, it is difficult for it to adapt to the outside world. In addition, substances secreted by the human body can penetrate into the interior of jade through its pores, thus filling the internal gaps and making the jade look more moist.

2. Jade must be cleaned frequently, especially inlaid jade jewelry, because there will always be some dust, grease and the like remaining in the gaps, which will affect the luster of the jade. Therefore, it is best to clean it about twice every season.

3. Jade is afraid of high temperature, oil stains, bumps and things containing chemicals. It is best not to wear jade when participating in high-temperature activities such as soaking in hot springs and saunas, as this will evaporate the moisture in the jade.

2. How to better maintain the moisture of jadeite that is not worn for a long time?

If you don’t wear jade for a long time, it is best to store it separately from other jewelry, especially jewelry with higher hardness such as gemstones. In order to maintain moisture in the air, it is best to put a glass of water next to the jade. Generally, there will be a glass of water on the counter of a jewelry store.
