The jade in front of you is made of natural Burmese wood. It is full of artistic conception. It is as clear as water and as green as water grass. There are dots of snowflake cotton on the material flying all over the sky and falling into this clear stream. It is full of subtle meaning and overflowing reverie, like the finishing touch.

Just like the three realms of Buddhism: "seeing mountains as mountains and water as water; seeing mountains as not mountains and water as not water; seeing mountains still as mountains and water still as water", the same is true for reading jadeite, which also goes through three stages: from not understanding to understanding, from understanding to not understanding, and finally from not understanding to understanding. The creator's understanding of jade is different at each stage, and the creative realm is also correspondingly different.

The wood is so old that even the sawed off scraps have extremely strong rigidity. The green waterway under natural light is like a pool of living water in a clear stream, fresh, green, lively and even.

Carving jade is not just the "carving" process, but the entire creative process including early conception, design and later carving, which plays to the strengths and avoids the weaknesses to showcase the natural beauty of jade.

One design is equivalent to nine works of art. Good design is the beginning of a good work. Jade carving is firstly the art of painting and only secondarily the art of carving. As far as jade creation is concerned, design accounts for 60% to 70% of the value of the work, while carving craftsmanship only accounts for 30% to 40%. Zhuangzi said, "The heaven and the earth have great beauty but they do not speak," and the same is true of jade.

The entire design process is time-consuming and extremely arduous, but the joy of coming up with an ideal design is irreplaceable.

Jade is a naturally formed beauty, and we should put its natural beauty and value first. The higher-end the jade, the less labor is required, so the craftsmanship should be "frugal", and too much is as bad as too little. The design should be as simple as possible, trying to retain the natural essence of jade, making use of the characteristics of jade and stopping at the right point.

When creating, three-tenths of the front side shows the beauty of craftsmanship, and seven-tenths shows the beauty of materials. From materials, design drafts, unpolished work to the birth of the final work, every step is a transformation and rebirth.

The design and carving on the back require particular thought. In order to express the Buddhist wisdom and mystery of "one flower, one world, one leaf, one bodhi", when designing and carving, efforts should be made to express the mystery and profundity of "like a flower but not a flower, like a leaf but not a leaf". The snowflakes dancing in the sky and the water droplets created according to the waterways and the overall artistic conception create a poetic and Zen world.

Polishing is the last step in jade carving. It may seem ordinary, but it is actually crucial.
