Jade Buddha has always been a combination of jade culture and Buddhist culture. It is not only a symbol of holiness, kindness, optimism, and open-mindedness, but also an auspicious object for praying for good luck and fortune. It has always been highly respected by the Chinese people and has remained popular for a long time. As for jadeite, the quality is the biggest factor that determines its value. The older the jadeite, the higher its price. However, "laymen look at the color, experts look at the quality" means that the quality of jadeite is not so easy to judge. Newbies have to find some other methods to judge the quality of jadeite. So are these methods reliable? Today, I will select one of the more controversial judgment methods to discuss with fellow jade lovers. Some people say: When we compare two Buddha statues, we may find that some have teeth and some do not. This is the simplest way to distinguish them. If the jade Buddha is not carved with teeth, it is a young one. If the one with teeth carved with teeth, it is an old one! Regarding this point of view, Lao Wang consulted many jade friends for their opinions. Proponent: 1. For the Buddha, there are two parts with relatively fine carving, the first is the hands, and the second is the teeth. Let’s not talk about hands, let’s talk about teeth. Old materials are more suitable for ivory carving, because the older they are, the denser their structure is, and it is less likely for them to crack or fly away. 2. This is actually due to two reasons: carving and polishing. The old ones are easier to carve than the young ones. In fact, the young ones can also be carved. However, when it comes to the polishing step, it is very easy to grind away the young teeth. It is not only a problem of the teeth. The young parts are ground away much more than the old parts during the polishing process. Counter-argument 1. Old material is indeed more suitable for carving tusks, but not carving tusks does not mean that the material is not old. Some jade Buddha statues worth one hundred yuan on the market have tusks, so you still have to look at the overall material. You can't just look at the tusks and ignore the overall picture. 2. The Jade Buddha is the same as all jade pendants. First, look at the quality, fineness and luminosity. These are the factors in judging the age of the jade. As for the Buddha's teeth and hands, they are purely within the scope of carving. Looking at the meticulousness of the workmanship is not the basis for judging the age of the jade at all! Okay, we have both supporting and opposing opinions. Lao Wang personally feels that the merits and virtues of the Jade Buddha should be viewed comprehensively. Friends, which view do you support more?
