How can you value jadeite without understanding these three prices in the jade market?

Before estimating the value of jadeite, we must first know that there are several prices for jadeite: purchase price, asking price and actual price.

Purchase price

First of all, there is the seller’s purchase price. Some sellers are unable to produce jade themselves.

Financially capable sellers can go to Myanmar to buy raw stones, and then make them into jewelry to sell.

Smaller sellers generally choose to purchase directly from suppliers. For sellers, the purchase price is equivalent to the cost price.

Asking price

When we first start to inquire about the price, the price given by the seller is called the asking price. For the same jade jewelry, the asking prices of different sellers will be different.

Physical stores need to bear expenses such as store rent and property fees, so their overall operating costs will be relatively high, and the seller's asking price will also be higher.

Most consumers are not particularly familiar with jadeite, and unreliable sellers who find out that their customers are novice jadeites may offer sky-high prices in an attempt to deceive the customers.

Net Price

If we are really interested in a piece of jade, we will walk to the counter and observe it carefully, and the seller will begin to introduce it enthusiastically.

Most sellers will not ask for an exorbitant price and scare the customer away when they encounter a potential customer.

Therefore, the prices given by the seller at this time are more realistic, that is, the actual price.

Of course, this does not mean that this price will definitely be the final transaction price or the reserve price. There may still be some room for negotiation, but the price fluctuation will not be particularly large.

After understanding the purchase price, asking price and actual price in the jade market, we can try to estimate the price.

Valuation

The price of jadeite has a reasonable range, so experts will not give specific numbers when estimating the price, but will say a few digits, such as three or four digits.

Some experts have very accurate valuations, but sellers may not be willing to sell according to the experts' valuations because sellers purchase goods through different channels and at different prices.

Therefore, when we appraise the value of jade jewelry, we can only estimate a range rather than a specific price.

The estimate is for reference only.

In the jade and jadeite industry, most people are reluctant to help others appraise the value of jadeite. Even if experts or sellers help to appraise the value, it can only be used as a reference.

For example, if you buy jadeite in City A and ask the seller in City B to estimate its price, the price given by the seller may be different. The local market conditions vary greatly in different cities, and the price of jadeite will naturally be different.

If interests are involved, sellers are even less willing to help others estimate prices easily, so some merchants are likely to just say it casually and get it over with. In this way, it is difficult for us to get a more accurate price, so everyone must find a reliable professional to help with the estimate.

It is difficult to estimate the value by looking at photos. After all, the appearance of jadeite can be very different due to different shooting angles and equipment. When faced with the real object, we need to observe it from multiple angles and in all directions. Estimating the price based on photos can only serve as a preliminary reference. When asking professionals to help estimate the price through photos, you can try to take photos from multiple angles to restore the original state of the jade as much as possible.

Pay for your hobbies

A piece of jade may be valued at 10,000 yuan by an expert, but the seller may insist on selling it for 15,000 yuan. This is normal.

Jade contains meaning and culture. Everyone has different understandings of meaning and culture, and naturally the valuation of jade is also different. After all, the ornamental and cultural value of jade are very abstract.

If we really like the jade in front of us, then we have to spend a little more money to suit our preferences.

If we feel it is not cost-effective, we can choose not to buy it. Don’t think that the seller is dishonest. Just understand each other.

It is indeed not an easy task to estimate the value of jadeite, but as long as we master the rules, we can definitely calculate a rough range.
